565.0. "Backbeat" by 17617::MAYNARD (The Front Row Kid) Tue Jun 07 1994 12:04
This was a disappointment, in a lot of the same ways that Oliver
Stone's chronicle of the Doors was. The story line is billed as
the Beatle's early days, specifically in Liverpool and Hamburg. While
most of the action does take place in these locales, Paul, George and
Pete Best are simply cardboard cutouts or sounding boards, for Lennon
and Stu Sutcliffe. The real storyline is the "triangle" between Lennon,
Sutcliffe, and Sutcliffe's girlfriend Astrid.
The pacing is slow, and the music isn't particularly interesting (50's
standards like Good Golly Miss Molly.)
Only for hardcore Beatle fans, and nostalgia buffs, although some
of the historical inaccuracies are pretty glaring...

| I took my 18 year old son to see it. I was really embarrassed.
I was really tempted to walk out a couple of times. I guess I kept
hoping it would get better. It didn't.
