| I have had the same difficulty trying to get this film. I was told
by one distributor that the film is not available in Video.
If you find a copy, let me know how!!

| "Siddhartha" (1973), directed by Conrad Rooks. Cast: Shashi Kappor,
Simi Garewal, Romesh Shama, Pinchoo Kapoor, Zul Vellani, Amrik Singh.
Cinematography: Sven Nykvist (best known for work with Ingmar
Bergman).
Info is from Maltin. Not noted as available on video tape.

PS. "Royal Flash" is/was available on video and frequently turns up on
television. If you are looking for George MacDonald Fraser on film,
you can always rent the awful sword'n'sorcery movie "Red Sonja" with
Brigitte Nielsen, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sandahl Bergman. Fraser
wrote the screenplay. It's good for some (unintentional) laughs.

Yes, but it's a 'good' bad movie. I've talked to a few London
video shops and 'Royal Flash' has gone out of print. I think I'm just
going to try to rent it and have it airmailed to me so that I can
finally scan convert it. Given his books and the fact that it stared
Malcolm McDowell, I suspect that the televised versions are somewhat
edited (though I've never seen it). He also wrote the screenplay
for Octopussy and the influence shows...
And Sandahl Bergman.... such an actress... :-)

| RE: Other Flashman novels on film
The only other ones have been "Flashdance", "Flashback", and "Chu Chu
and the Philly Flash". Needless to say, they didn't capture the
essence of the novels.
(I think "Royal Flash" has been the only one to date.)

PS. In an effort to have something in this note at least somewhat
tangentially related to the nominal topic: Could someone correct the
title to "Siddhartha"? Thanks.

At the risk of having this become a pun note: "Flash 'Chinese' Gordon"
Re: .2. I don't recognize the director, Conrad Rooks. You wouldn't
have at hand a filmography of his or any hint of who owns the distribution
rights to Siddhartha, would you?

| re: Conrad Rooks
Unfortunately, the only sources at hand are Maltin and a very old
Scheuer. Maltin is useful on Director/Actor filmography for the ones he
lists, but he only covers a tiny subset of directors (with some pretty
egregious absences, IMHO.)
Someone on the net must have a Halliwell or Katz handy. Personally,
I've never heard of Conrad Rooks.

| In talking to an Indian colleague at a customer site, he mentioned that
he has frequently spotted this film in Indian markets in the states.
He rented it and the description shows it to be the very film you are
looking for. Check out your local Indian grocery/sari shop/video
rental place.
