| I was pleasantly surprised by this film. Wasn't expecting it to be
much, but I really enjoyed it. The chemistry between this experienced
and talented cast made a simple story come to life. The comedy is
strong in the first half of the film - almost frivolous as you watch
the antics of the two adult "juveniles", then moves to a more
bittersweet come-drama the second half.
Burgess Meredith as the crusty, sex-driven 90 year old father is
priceless. Be sure to stay through the credits, where some of the
funniest lines in the movie are!
I'm looking forward to viewing this again when it comes out on video.

| This is now out on video - just rented it. I had high expections for
the movie given the actors involved and I must say that I was not
disappointed.
Really liked this movie - lots of good one liners and, as said before,
Burgess Meridith as the crusty 90-something father is great. That the
movie also had serious undertones made it even better.
Credits are great too!
Will anyone who sees this ever be able to hear the word "PUTZ" and not
think of this movie? It reminded me of "on golden pond" when Katherine
Hepburn kept calling Henry Fonda "an old poop" and that phrase seemed
to catch on.

| Saw a quick blurb that they are filming a sequel to this... I think
they called it "Grumpier old men" or something like that. Walter Mathau
(sp? on all names questionable), Jack Lemon and Daryl Hannah still
there and the "female" interest this time seems to be Sophia Loren.
Release date sometime around or after xmas 95.

| Loved "Grumpy Old Men" due to the one liners and the great chemistry
between Walter and Jack. Burgess is freakin hilarious with all his
sexual innuendos!!!
I just got to see the sequal to this flick, "Grumpier Old Men" and was
just as pleased with this one. Much of the same stuff, with a hint of
cheese, but still hilarious at times. Those credits are the icing on
the cake!
Slight spoiler:
During the final credits...
Walter to Sophie (still a Babe) Loren after they bump into each other
at the supermarket...
"Why don't you watch where the f*** you're goin'?"
Busted a gut for that one!

| Rented this one without realizing that it wasn't "Grumpier Old Men".
I loved it. It's light and entertaining. Sit through the movie to
the very very end. The best parts are there. Looking forward to
seing the sequel.

525.6 | Grumpier old men very good too! | GRANPA::JBOBB | Janet Bobb dtn:339-5755 | Fri Aug 30 1996 15:19 | 14 |
| Rented the sequal - Grumpier old Men - a few weeks ago. Another good
movie. Good interaction, still two old crusty guys playing practical
jokes. Cast is great, other than daryl hannah. shows up pretty weak in
the company of all those other "greats".
Burgess Meridith again almosts steals the show - and Sophia Loren
character's mother is great!
Though I still have a hard time believing Walter Mathau (sp?) as a love
interest (and haven't for years).
Liked it enough, have bought it for the laser disk collection.

Did she look familiar? I love her! Long ago, she played.... (drum
roll)...
Next-door-neighbor *Millie* on the Dick Van Dyke Show.

| Millie??? Geeessssss! No wonder she looked familiar but I could't place
her. Too bad none of the characters were named Rob or Laura, then I
probably would have placed her right away.
There are several older female actors that have been "blending"in my
mind's eye and can't figure out where/what they have been in.
thanks!!!

525.9 | I bet SLAB can give us name & resume :-) | MPGS::WOOLNER | Your dinner is in the supermarket | Tue Sep 03 1996 16:08 | 10 |
| You're welcome :-) Not that I can remember the actress' name or
anything, though!
I'm famous for missing up to 10 minutes of the plot of any given movie
because I'm trying to figure out where the heck I saw somebody before.
Latest example of that was Saturday night, a supporting player in
"Emma". (When I get a Round Tuit I may start a topic for "Emma": loved
it!)

Yes, I bet I can ... what's in it for me? 8^)
I never miss any of the plot, but I do keep the face in the
back of my mind until I can figure out where I saw him/her.
Like in a recent "Outer Limits" episode, "The Vanishing Act",
with Jon Cryer. His wife looked very familiar, but I had a
very hard time figuring out who she was. I actually watched
it almost 3 times before I finally caught the beginning cred-
its and realized her name was Jessica Lundy, and even that
didn't help. But I finally remembered that she was in "Hope
and Gloria" with Cynthia Stevenson.

How old is Walter Mathau ?
I'd put him in his mid seventies but was wondering if he is older.
