Saw the Ref recently. I wouldn't recommend it unless you or your sibling is involved in a boring antagonistic marriage that needs a little shaking up. The acting is fine, but as too usual, the script was written for Hollywood. ** David

I kind of liked it. Some sharp dialogue and good comic lines. i'm not normally very fond of these domestic black comedies, full of families and marriages made up of people who hate each other, but this one struck me as better than most. It is set in an uppre middle class home in Connecticut. The "Ref" of the title is an intelligent burglar who takes a warring married couple hostage. Their family shows up for Christmas dinner, and the dynamics of this unhappy group complicate the hostage situation. Eventually there is an incredible reconciliation of sorts. Not a great movie, but enjoyable if your expectations aren't too high. -Stephen | |||||

I was ROLLING through a good portion of this ... Denis Leary is great!! Not sure what it is ... some sort of combination of his attitude, delivery, etc. |
