Watched a video last night called " SOLAR CRISIS " .
It was set in the future about 2067 , all the typical future types are
there world almost all desert , large citys with evan larger buildings
and the manditory corperation that wants to have a monopoly on the
resources . When the sun is due to have a flear-up scientists have
predicted that one of the solar flears will actully hit earth killing
everybody on it . So they have designed a anti-matter bomb , which
placed at the right place and time in the sun ,would divert the flear
round earth . Then you have inter-woven plot of a corperation ( IXL )
who try to sabotage this mission , and alot of people get killed .
The idea is good but it had to many similaritys with Mad max , aliens,
dark star , star trek , 2001/10 , etc .
There were alot of stars in it which made it more enjoyable .
Tim mathisons
Peter boyle
Charlton heston
Jack palance
some others . The effects were'nt bad but most of it was of the Star
trek - the next gen. type computer effects , they were done by Syd mead
and some of the other top effects people who have done 2001/10 , Star
wars , Star trek , Alien/s etc . which meant that it was tastfully done
and not of cheap quality .
over all an o.k film ***.5/*****

How old is this movie? Charlton Heston and Jack Palance in a sci-fi extravaganza? Sounds like it's been out a while? Is it perhaps old enough to have influenced the movies you took it to have been derived from? - tom]

Lest you think that solar flares can't hurt the earth,
there are patches of fused sand in deserts which are
the results of flare events. It's rare, and most of
the Earth is ok because of cloud cover, but it happens.
I read this in a reliable source (some science text
or article), but can't recall where.

Re. .2
At the end of the credits it stated 1992 and was recorded in the now
traditional spectral sound / dolby sr .
The film looked like it had a large backing from Japanese sources , the
book was writen by a Japanese person . It looked like one of there
sci-fi comics turned into a film .
I'll try to explaine what character each actor played :-
1) Jack Palance - Played a mad max style drifter , in the desert , who
in fact is a major in the old style militery , who
helps out C.Hestons son who did an A.W.O.L from the
military .
2) Charlton Heston - He is the admerial of the space station and
military , he is trying to find his son and to
find out what the hell is going on with this
IXL-Corperation .
3) Peter Boyle - He is the baddie of this film , and quite a good one
He is cold blooded and dos'nt care for anybody .
4) Tim Mathison - He is the captain of the mission and the ship carring
the bomb , he is also the other son of C.Heston ,
There are some other well known bit-part actors which appear in the
film which makes it better then most of the cheap rip-offs , with
no named people playing the parts .
On the other hand this did'nt look like a cheap'o film , the sets are
well designed and the effects up to , in some places to big budget
movies . You can also see were the effects men really made an effort
to make it look good. The guys who did them (mostly) were the ones who
did the effects for 2010-odysee two were some of the shots from this
film would of not been out of place in 2010 .
I recomend this for more of the effects , and a good story idea ..

I got the impression it was made as a TV movie (but with 'normal' film effects) for the foreign market and ended up being released directly to video for the US market.
