one with the jeans and sneakers (not Spanky)?
My youngest reminds me of him sooo much.

| Spanky had a long lived local TV series in Dallas. He did just
recently die. I thought Alfalfa committed suicide?
Of course Jackie Cooper became a big time TV producer. Not sure
if he is still alive.
Originally, Alfalfa, Spanky, Jackie, and I think Darla all came
from Oklahoma.

| That's okay. *I* meant Jackie Coogan also. Wasn't he in "The Littlest
something_or_other" as a child star? Anyway, then he went on to
direct, and died 5 or 10 years ago.

| Alph was a bar owner and was knifed for an arguement about fifty
dollars. I think he was around twenty eight when he died. Apparently
he had major problems after LR. It was said he could do no wrong as
a child, grew up a premadonna jerk, and could not cope with being a
"nobody".
Spanky did a cameo on one of the last episodes of "Cheers" and died
a few months later. I think he did well for himself.
Buckwheat died some time back, I only remember this from SNL when
Eddie Murphy made his character popular again. I can't remember
about Darla, although I thought she died, too.
Robert Blake (TV's Berretta) was "Mikey" (I think) and he is alive.
I wish I knew about "Froggy".

Re: a few back
'Scotty' was Scotty Beckett... he met an unfortunate demise in the 50's.
'Froggy' was killed as a teenager while riding on a highway with 2 kids
on the same bike...
Yes, George 'Spanky' McFarland passed away a few months ago.
I'll bring in my 'Little Rascals' book and update a bunch of these
names/info for all you folkes.
Be aware that the later ones with Froggy & Mickey were done by MGM and
not Hal Roach and were quite a bit inferior than the earlier ones.
I'll post the info on the book as well... it is *well* worth getting a copy
of... written by Leonard Maltin, updated about a year ago from its
original 1977 printing.
Also, Hal Roach died about 9-12 months ago... at age 100. The film
industry would have been far less rich without him... he brought us Our
Gang (aka Little Rascals), Laurel & Hardy, Harold Lloyd, etc.

some other kitchen cleaner.
I read that Whoopi Goldberg is suppose to have a cameo as Mrs. Wheat,
Buck Wheat's mother.

491.17 | Hi sign! | 16913::STERN_TO | Tom Stern -- Have TK, will travel! | Wed Mar 23 1994 19:45 | 23 |
| First of all, "Robert Blake" IS the stage name. His real name, which
was the name he used in the Little Rascals, was Mickey Gubitosi.
Both Jackie Cooper and Jackie Coogan performed on the Little Rascals at
different times.
Tommy Bond, who played Butch is supposed to have an autobiography out
any time now (or possibly for last -- or next -- Christmas), called
"You're darn right it's Butch!"
>> I think Darla went on to become Josephine the Plumber for Comet, or
>> some other kitchen cleaner.
Wrong child star.
>> I read that Whoopi Goldberg is suppose to have a cameo as Mrs. Wheat,
>> Buck Wheat's mother.
Yeah, and at the end of the story he comes a Muslim and calls himself
Kareem o Wheat

Is that the one that was actually Alfalfa's dream in anticipation of exploring
the cave? He wakes up just as he's about to be creamed by a big nasty ogre
who lives in the cave. It scared me too.

not, the posters do show Stymie and BuckWheat...
FWIW
None of the actors bear much physical resemblance to the original
actors, although Alfalfa does have a prominent cowlick...
