490.0. "King Of The Hill" by 12368::michaud (Jeff Michaud, PATHWORKS for Windows NT) Thu Mar 10 1994 00:32
This one is set in St. Louis in 1933 (in a depression).
Aaron (played by Jesse Bradford, a newcommer I believe)
and his family live in a hotel and are way behind in their
rent (along with most of the people living in the hotel).
His father has taken to being a door-to-door salesperson
to feed his family, his mother goes off to a sanatarian,
and his only brother is sent off to live with relatives,
leaving Aaron to take care of himself.
The Aaron character is really the whole film, though I also
found his friend Lester and the bell-hop to both be memoriable
characters.
This was a very good film indeed, thumbs up.
Karen Allen and Elizabeth McGovern have a couple of small
roles (I'd call them cameos, especially for Liz, but both
were listed in opening credits and the box says co-stars :-).
BTW, it seems to be based (how close I don't know) on the memoirs
of someone named A.E. Hotcher. And Steven Soderbergh (sex,
lies, and videotape) wrote the screenplay and directs.

| I enjoyed it also. I give it a 7 out 10. Definitely worth renting...
