But that's OK, I'll reserve my judgement for when I see it ... I usually don't
agree with critics anyway. I still can't believe they liked "Annie Hall."

I saw the trailer last weekend and, to tell the truth, I've never
really appreciated this guy's work too much (In Living Color, etc), but
the ad made me giggle like a twit for minutes afterwards.
I think i'll check this out when it arrives.

A friend of mine went to see this movie, and also said it was probably

stupid, but she said it is extremely funny.

| I know how you feel Debby. I usually listen to the critics before
I go see a movie and initial reviews on this one were very poor.
However, this time it was a gut reaction for me. I've seen many
comedies, but no movie has ever made me laugh steady for two hours.
Another noter explained it a little better when she said she wanted
to go again to see the parts she missed while she was laughing.
I'd like to see this guy co-star with Robin Williams. Those two
would be one of the greatest pairs of all time.
A sure sleeper hit!!!

| I dunno... While I find Jim Carrey funny in small doses, the mugging he
was doing in the previews to this flick turned me off, off, off. [The
bullet scene was cute, though.] I don't expect I'll ever go out of my
way to watch this, but one can never tell what one may find oneself
staring at on a long slow weekend night when there's nothing else to
do. ;-)

and they have excluded it from date-night and passes.
I saw it. I thought some of it was inappropriate for my 12 year old

career ahead of him than ever...

| When I saw the previews of this I thought it would have to wait at
least until the vidio came out, but then got stuck going out with a
group that wanted to see it. I was pleasantly surprised.
don't let anyone kid you - it is a stupid movie - but it is more on the
line of a mel brooks stupid than just trash stupid. One of the things I
liked about the movie was the take-offs or references to other
movies/tv shows - Jaws, Star Trek, Mission Impossible, the Crying Game
- were the ones I remember. Jim Carrey does a nice job.
Maybe it depends on the mood you are in, but I thought it was ok. I
don't think it's appropriate for young kids, since some of the humor is
based on body part and/or sex humor - but then your milage may vary.

Well, I went to see this on Thursday expecting all the funny bits to be
the ones that were in the trailers, but I was pleasantly surprised to
find that this film kept me chuckling all the way through and laughing
out loud in more than a couple of places. It's good - go see it.
Once you get used to Jim Carrey's gormless expression you'll enjoy it.

I finally rented this movie. I rented it and "Philadelphia". We
watched Phily right away and thought it was pretty good.
My 68 year old mother brought my 11 year old nefew to see "Ace..." when
it was in the theater. She kept saying "It was soooo weird" and she
didn't really like it.
My wife didn't even want to watch "Ace..." but I eventually got her
to sit down and watch it with me. It was probably one of the funniest
movies of all time!!! After it was over, my wife said "lets watch it
again" and we did. I think it was even funnier to us knowing my mother
sat through it with my nefew.
"o.k. then what's all the pet food for?" "....Fiber!?"

I rented "Ace" mostly because it was the only thing left at the
video store, but partially because of the reviews here.
Ouch, was it BAD!!! Now I like stupid movies as much as the next
person, but this was just too bad to sit through. To say it is
aimed at 10-year-old boys is being much too generous. I've seen
Saturday morning children's cartoons with more depth and humour
and thought than this had. It was just BAD, I can't describe it
any other way, not funny or silly or even slapstick, it was just
bad, the way an ill-thought-out SNL skit is so bad it makes you
cringe for the actors, except this bad skit went on forever.
Needless to say I don't agree with the "one of the funniest movies
of all time" review. I felt cheated for just the rental fee. My SO
could only watch it for 10 minutes before walking away. Myself, I
am always too optimistic and forgiving, hoping to encounter a scene
or at least a laugh right around the corner, any moment now.
Despite that, I only lasted 30 minutes before shutting it off.
I didn't even bother to fast-forward through it. It was pure
trash... steer clear of this one folks.

The opening sequence alone almost turned me off from watching the rest
of the movie. The audience has no know way of knowing..., oh, alright:
minor SPOILER
... that Ventura is NOT a UPS delivery man but just playing one, and he
has good reason to break the glass in the "package".
It strikes a nerve in me when seemingly responsible adults are portrayed
as deliberate vandals. We ought not to be teaching that to youngsters.
But once it was evident this was just a gimmick, it was OK.

Ah, but you don't KNOW that during the opening scene. He's dressed
just like a UPS delivery man doing his job. At that point he does
look seemingly responsible. And in fact that's what the director
wants us to believe, at least for a whlie.

| I knew pretty much right off in watching this movie that the UPS man
was not a real UPS man... I mean, it was really difficult, the title of
the Movie was Ace Ventura Pet Detective and not Ace Ventura UPS Guy,
and that it was supposed to be a really funny movie, and I had been
told by friends about Carney's character on Living Color (I don't watch
a lot of TV...), hmmmmm.... did I really think they were trying to
represent him at the beginning as a REAL package deliverer? No, but it
took one or two brain cells to figure it out...

So if you (a) saw the previews or (b) were told by friends, then you
were forewarned enough to know this was a set-up. That's fair, you know
enough to judge before the movie even starts. When *I* saw the movie
I figured the UPS guy was making a delivery TO "Ace Ventura". Starts
things out on an entirely different foot.
I don't see how one can draw conclusions from the title of the movie.
"Police Academy" sounds like a cop drama, "The African Queen" sounds
like the biography of a tribal leader, "Children of a Lesser God" must be
entirely mythical, "The Shining" was probably a tropical/desert story,
the list of examples goes on and on.

Lets see where we can take this :-)
"Gone with the wind" is a documentary on Hurricanes and Tornados
"True Grit" is a Bob Villa special on refinishing furniture
"This is spinal tap" is a medical documentary
"The Happy Hooker" is a story of a content fisherman...
and so on and so on and so on... tell two friends!!!

I finally rented this from the grocery store video place for a buck
plus tax and I'm glad that's all I spent. For me, the best moments
were strung together in the commercials for the movie.
I thought Carrey was great in "Batman Forever" in fact he totally made
the movie for me. Perhaps it was not good to see the earlier released
"Ace" after "Batman" where his "genius" is clearly more developed IMO.
Since I am currently caught up in the Jim Carrey hype, "Ace" was a bit
of a dissapointment for me.
