"Addams Family Values" lives up to its billing as even better than the original "Addams Family". The identical cast to the first movie is back again, and they seem more at home in their roles. A bit looser. The movie has the barest thread of a plot, which serves as an excuse to string comedic moments together, but the writing is very funny, and the delivery of the lines very good. Christina Ricci is absolutely spectacular in her role as Wednesday. I wonder if she'll receive any votes nominating her as "Best Supporting Actress". Her timing is impeccable and the malicious, maniacal glee in her very occasional smile is terrific. She also has some of the best lines. Christopher Lloyd's rubber face, Raul Julia's and Anjelica Huston's S&M lines, Carol Kane's make-up as Grandma, and Joan Cusack as the normal looking serial killer were also very good. The twin girls playing Pubert also deserve some special mention. The Thanksgiving play alone is worth the price of admission. I enjoyed "Addams Family" but this is clearly better and worth a second viewing. **** of ***** if you're in the mood for mindless entertainment * of ***** if you're looking for great cinema. :^) Cheers, George

Nit on "identical cast": Carol Kane did not play Grandmama in the first movie. Yes, this movie is a riot! The one-liners are great and the cast does an excellent job delivering them in the very matter-of-fact way that makes the premise of the Addams Family work (contrasting their "wierdness" to the rest of the world's "normalcy"). Very recommended! -- Bill

Amazing. I though the first Addams Family movie stunk overall. Is this one that much better? Curt

No, I think it's worse. From the previews, I thought the 2nd movie would actually be funnier than the first, but it wasn't. Now, mind you, I was underwhelmed by the first movie (although the two people I saw it with thought it was funny. They also liked the second one.) .0 was right: hardly any plot, just enough to support scenes which read like panels of a cartoon, and unfortunately, not that funny of a cartoon. It was overdone, overlong in places, Wednesday got most, if not all, the funny lines (to the point where I was getting tired of her), and Christopher Lloyd, a funny guy, was decidedly NOT funny at all. I found his simpering Uncle Fester almost painful to watch at times. The baby, with its little moustache, was cute. ** out of **** kim

I liked it a lot but would rate it a "matinee price or wait for video". I thought it was better than the first movie. There is more of a plot in this one and I thought the writing and acting was crisper. -- Bill

It's a definite sequel - if you liked the original you'll like this one. I'd agree with the better acting/writing and thin plot comments. Perhaps twice it was predictable, overall worth the money. We saw it last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it 4 /5 Paul.
