388.0. "My Girl" by TLE::JBISHOP () Mon Nov 29 1993 12:14
This is a coming-of-age movie: but the age is 11.
Anna Chlumsky plays the daughter of a mortician (Dan Ackroyd).
MacCaully Culkin is her best friend, Jamie Lee Curtis the woman
who does the make-up on the dead people.
By no means a "kid" movie, it's about dealing with death. It's
also a serious big-time tear-jearker. It got me three times, and
I'm an emotionally detached critic (but I'm also a parent, so I
can be gotten to).
It's interesting to me that 1972 is now the nostalgic past of
safe small towns and childhood. I remember it somewhat differently,
but I was a lot more than 11 then!
