| Yeah, I wrote it in the soundtrack note, and I was/am (?) pretty
sure until I read your reply.
If you think it's hard to find Argento films in Ireland you
haven't been to Sweden...sure we got 'Terror...' but not complete:
it's been 'trimmed' for the Swedish audience that can not stand the
sight of blood.%'(
I got a copy of 'Terror...' in Italian! I'm not really sure of what
the plot is about...
Oh well, my favourite is 'Suspiria'. Really a 'must see'!

| I saw "Trauma" recently (it's available on video, in the States
anyway). Frankly, I wasn't impressed; it simply wasn't in the same
league with "Suspiria", and I thought it fell very flat in nearly all
aspects. Even the music wasn't very interesting...
Basic plot (just to make sure we've got the same movie here): a serial
killer is loose, and has been slaughtering people and making off with
their heads. A troubled young girl appears from nowhere and attracts
the attention of a young man, who becomes concerned about her - and,
through her, involved in the murder mystery. Who's doing the killing?
Why? Who's next?
Sound trite? Yep. The initial mystery-girl plot conceit was rather
nice, but I found that it got predictable and boring almost at once. I
didn't find the gore very gory (though the kid-and-lizard bit was
upsetting), the suspense very suspenseful, or the characters very
interesting, and the "mystery" really wasn't.
I'd say this one was a dud.
[Some additional comments behind spoiler:]
OK, the garotte/beheading gadget was... interesting. Kind of silly, but
interesting. Every time it showed up I kept wondering how it really
worked and whether it was feasible, and whether it could really jam so
easily on fabric if it was capable of slicing flesh? [This latter is
possible; it's just that the fact that I was wondering about it while
the movie was going on suggests that I did not find the action
particulary riveting. ;-)]
The scene of one of the decapitated victims trying to tip off the
horrified guy who stumbled onto the scene was, frankly, pretty silly.
Even if I wanted to accept the possibility of the *conscious* survival
of a severed head (without any medical intervention, mind), and even if
I wanted to believe it could try to mouth the words that would point to
the killer - well, even then, the way the scene was filmed just looked
ridiculous.
No creepiness and very little squirm-factor; again, a dud.

Unfortunatley I havn't seen this film but I would be really
interested to see it. I'm a bit of a fan of his films but unfortunatley
his films are a bit difficult to get here in Ireland.
My favourite Argento film has got to be 'Terror at the Opera'.
< spoiler warning !! >
the thought of the spikes under the girl's eyes still gives me shivers.
The man is a genius.
I read somewhere in this conference that he only made a guest
appearance with goblin in the soundtrack of suspiria, but I can
remember reading an interview with him a few years ago and he said
that he was actually a member of the band.
Does anybody know what the actual truth is ?
cheers
rodge.
p.s. apologies about the previous reply, I hope the spoiler works this time I'm new to this !

I managed to get a loan of Deep Red and Suspiria recently
and I thought they were excellent films, although there could
have been a lot more gore in Suspiria, ( unless the version I saw
was edited ).
On the other hand Deep Red had some excellent moments and the
some of the murders were pretty brutal.
< spoiler warning >
It was pointed out to me that you can actually tell who the murderer is
after the first killing in Deep Red, I wonder if anybody else ever
noticed ?
cheers
