| Before somebody enters his entire film-ography or whatever you call it,
special mention to his roles in The Yakuza as second banana to Robert
Mitchum, and The Friends of Eddie Coyle, as second banana to...hey!, in
which he had a grating phony bad Boston accent but other than that was
quite good.

| Being English, I can't say anything about his accent in The Friends of
Eddie Coyle, but it was a great performance. And I'm glad to hear that
somebody else has seen The Yakuza. And he was great in that, too.
But for me, his best performance was in an otherwise not-so-memorable The
Mean Season where he was murdering people in Florida and terrorising
Kurt Russell and Mariel Hemingway. Most of the movie was standard
nutcase on the loose stuff, but every scene with Richard Jordan was
genuinely creepy because a) he was so restrained (no foaming at the
mouth and screaming) and b) you never, ever quite knew what he was
going to do next. At one point he was eating an apple while explaining
to a victim what was going to happen to her, and why, and he stopped to
offer her a piece of apple. Just your normal, run-of-the-mill, kind and
considerate serial killer. He made Freddy and Jason look like the Care
Bears.
Nick
PS I don't know what part he played in Gettysburg, except that he was
one of the Confederate officers. I'll dig up the copy of TIME and find
out.

Jordan played the Confederate officer Armistead, the one who lead
his men all the way across the field and over the wall in Pickett's
Charge. Armistead died of his wounds two days after the charge.

He was the Government official who interfaced (brilliantly) with Joss Ackland
as the Russian Ambassador - who was also pretty good...

Was he also in the T.V. miniseries "Of Cabbages and Kings" ??
I believe his name was Joseph Armagh in it. It was about Irish
immigrants coming to the U.S. in the late 1880 (I believe).

the time!).
I think it was called simply "Captains and the Kings" (no "Of").

371.16 | Superb in "Gettysburg" | 5315::CLARK | | Fri Jul 01 1994 21:47 | 4 |
| His "Gettysburg" scene where he is reminiscing with Longstreet (Tom
Berenger) about his Union Army friends was, imo, the most emotional
scene of the whole film. Superb acting.
