        Project: _Screening as Event_.
                 Towards a Phenomenology of Film

Independent scholar seeks respondents
for survey/research, for ms. for eventual publication.

Please review the following three questions, and respond
ad libitem. Any material used can be anonymous or cited,
and a Release will be submitted for signature where appropriate.

Thank you.

1)

What comes to mind in terms of capital "f" Film (aka
cinema)? "film" = any film

(could be first film ever seen, most sublime,
most ridiculous -- or essential aspect of film,
                filmgoing, screening/showing)

2)

What's the most essential thing anybody's ever said about
Film (aka cinema)?

E.G. "There are basically two kinds of films:
films that are alive, and films that are
                        dead." -- Billy Wilder

the quote can be from anyone.
from the ridiculous -----> the sublime.

3)

What's the most essential thing anybody's every said AT
any film ... or thing that's happened at any screening?

From there, respondents can also submit
further testimony as they feel so moved. Bay Areans are
invited to be interviewed by phone.

Some elements currently being bracketed include:

unity, film before film (roots), lines, trivia,
oral culture vs. written, matinees, theater
        architecture, historical development (old
        & new), sightlines.

Respondents include projectionists, ushers, ornamental
plasterers, average audience, assistant directors, editors,
astrologists, et al.

Questions/comments also welcome.

        Thanx!!
