327.0. "Love at Stake" by VMSDEV::HALLYB (Fish have no concept of fire) Tue Sep 14 1993 13:17
Salem witch trials with a Mel Brooks flair. NOT a Mel Brooks production,
but the movie is definitely in that style. On video.
The evil judge and mayor of Salem need to find a way to confiscate a
lot of property to build a condominium-complex-cum-shopping-mall.
They dream up the witch hunt as a way to accomplish this.
Meanwhile the new assistant preacher (Patrick Cassidy) returns from
divinity school to his longtime sweetheart, Sara Lee, who is about to
open her new store. And along comes a "real" witch who is fascinated
with the new assistant preacher's male charms. Everything proceeds
along more or less predictable lines. The gags vary from rather crude
to pretty subtle. There are no big name actors; I think Jim Belushi
and Bud "Harold and Maude" Cort are the only names I recognized.
Rated R, but I think PG-17 might be closer to reality if such a rating
existed. Worth the rental if you're a Mel Brooks fan. Not worth it if
he's not your style.
