| "Jurrasic Park" and "WLGTDWI" premiered the saem weekend, on 2000+ and
about 60 screens, respectively. I read in "Entertainment Weekly" that
"WLGTDWI" earned more money per screen than the dinosaurs.

235.3 | Angela Bassett was excellent | 19280::JACOBSON | | Tue Jun 29 1993 10:41 | 8 |
| I saw this movie this weekend; it was excellent. Angel Basset does
a wonderful performance as Tina Turner. They paid attention to detail
in this movie. The recreation of the period's cloths and furniture
was very good. Even if you do not like Tina Turner's music you will
enjoy this film. I sent my 70 year old parents to it(they hate rock)
and they enjoyed.
Not a film to bring children to as there were graphic violent scences.

I also got to see this movie over the weekend and loved it. I was
curious about who did the singing. Its easy enough to dub in
entire songs, but I wondered about some of the practice sessions
where she sings parts of songs. For instance, the scene where tina
is singing in the studio booth at her house practicing a song she
wrote (nutbridge(?) city). She keeps starting and stopping and doing
the song a little different each time so I can not see how they could
dub the real tina in. So I was wondering if anyone knew if they
only used ike and tina or the actress sang, or maybe a combination?

| Siskel & Ebert said the actress lip synced the songs (they gave
her praise for a good job of doing it). Whether that applys
to the whole movie or not ....

| I went by the closing credits. Most of the songs were listed as "performed
by Tina Turner". I don't know about the short spots either.

| I saw an interview with Tina recently, and she said that she had done
some re-recording for the movie. All of the singing was undoubtedly
Tina herself.

ahh....well that explains it. I was wondering if Tina might
have done that. The voice always sounded the same so I was
really wondering how they achieved that. Thank you very
much for the information.

| I found that last few repies confusing...you all talk like Tina were
dead, and unable to lay down the tracks for the actress to lip sync
to...
Weird.

Didn't she die last week after eating pop rocks?

| No one's saying she's dead. The issues is that when doing a biography
of a living person, some times the subject cooperates and some times they
don't.
If she didn't want to do the music herself and if she wouldn't allow them to
use her recordings then they would have had to recreate her sound themselves.
Most likely that would have involved legal issues.
However it appears that she did cooperate and that she actually performed
some of her stuff for the film rather than using existing recordings.

Of course it is, I don't think anyone would argue that. ... Well, maybe some
would.
Still it is a really good movie, I recommend it to all Tina fans and to others
as well for the reasons stated in .0.
