According to the latest gossip, the next Batman will be without Tim B.
Personally, I think he's terrific at look and feel, and not much on
movies with plot.

| FWIW, Family Dog (A Tim Burton creation, found first in Steven
Spielberg's Amazing Stories) is finally being dusted off and put on TV.
I don't hold much hope for it, being something like 4 years in delay
and a cartoon, but I liked the original a lot. Tim Burton, for those
who don't know, attended the California [mumble mumble -- I just forgot
the name], a prestigious school for those inclined towards the arts.
Disney gets a lot of recruits from there. Expensive as hell, too. I
believe he was going to be an animator before deciding live action
cartoons were fun, too. :)

| Caught "Family Dog" last night and hated it. Mean-spirited and unfunny,
and I laugh at almost anything.
But then again, I thought "Batman Returns" was pretty awful, too.
To each her own...

Tim Burton will be Executive Producer though. Joel Schumaker will
direct. He's done THE LOST BOYS, FLATLINERS and FALLING DOWN of the top
of my head.....

"Pee Wee's Big Adventure" and "Edward Scissorhands" were great. You
can have the "Batman"'s, though, they were boring (ought to get Sam Raimi
for the next one - "Darkman" was what "Batman" was meant to be).
Beetlejuice was a one-idea movie, overplayed by Keaton.
I think Tim is excellent with that warped "look and feel." He seems to
get a great texture to the cinematography, too. Sometimes, that's all
he has - Beetlejuice, for instance, was boring for its lack of anything
but that.
PWBA had a great story, great lines, and a solid lead. I've raved
about this in the past, so I'll stop by saying it is one of the most
inspired movies of all time.
ES was a wonderful fairy tale - it had one of my favorite performances of
all time with A. Arkin (name?) as the Dad. Despite Wynona (plpht! yucko),
Burton was able to bring a lot of sympathy and melancholy to the character
as well as his interaction with Vincent Price, his creator (great casting!).
Both of those movies used Burton's surrealness as a vehicle to enhance
the movie, rather than making it the point of the movie.
One other thing that really MAKES a Burton movie is Danny Elfman's
soundtracks - perfecto music!

RE: Sean
I loved "Pee Wee's Big Adventure", too.
And the more I see Wynona Ryder, the more I like her. I'd
like to see much more of her [heh heh]in the future.

re .2 - the school is called the California Institute of the Arts,
or CalArts. Believe it is funded mostly by the Disney foundation.
Heard that when it was in its early years in the late sixties the
button down Walt Disney execs visiting the campus were bewildered at
the weirdness growing under their founding.
