I can't say I enjoyed this movie, but it certainly made me think.
It's about growing up in LA's Watts area. The main charatcter has just graduated
from HS (no small feat,in this environment) and has no plans and no direction.
I don't know how accurate a portrayal this is of life in the LA Ghetto, but it
is one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. Every other word is obscene
the characters have no respect for home, school, religion, their peers or even
themselves. Mindless violence is pervasive, if someone "disses" you or a friend
or relative, you shoot 'em. If you want a set of tires, you steal 'em. Killing
someone is "no big thang".
This movie, by the Hughes Bros is well made, thought provoking and intense, as
a movie it's entertaining, as a mirror of a segment of society, it's depressing.
Recommended for the strong of heart.
