217.0. "Rock-n-Roll Bio-pics" by 6729::PATTON () Tue Jun 15 1993 13:42

I saw "What's Love Got to Do With It" last night and loved it
because I love Tina Turner and thought Angela Bassett was terrific
and the music was well done.

Then I got to thinking about bios of rock-n-rollers. The only one
I can think of right now that I have seen is "The Buddy Holly
Story", which I also loved because I love Buddy Holly and thought
Gary Busey did a great job.

What are some other bios of rock and roll musicians?

Although "The Rose" was fiction, wasn't it loosely patterned on the life
    of Janis Joplin?

The show he never gave - Hank Williams (discussed elsewhere)

I believe there are also bio pics (not exactly R&R) on Woody Guthrie
    and Leadbelly.

Yes. I'm drawing a blank on the title, but I think it got a technical
Academy Award for the use of a steadicam. An innovative, at the time,
tracking shot started as a high-level crane shot where the point of
view comes down from above and follows [John?] Carradine into a migrant
worker camp, stepping over tent ropes and other obstacles. It was
remarkable at the time because such a shot would have been impossible
to set up on tracks and a hand held camera would've been too jerky.
