| re .0, I had a similar opinion. I thought the first 3/4 of it was
funny and intertaining, but then it wound-up with a very corny ending.
Ted Danson and Whoopi Golderg did seem to have chemistry, though. His
eyes lit up when he looked at her, and I'm not sure if it was all
acting. I think the rumors of a romance might be true. :-)

| I think we can all rest assured that Danson's sudden separation from
his wife after this movie was filmed and his being attached to
Goldberg's hip ever since the separation isn't a coincidence. Frankly,
although I liked both of them separately, I just can't bring myself to
see a movie with both of them in it together. It's like pairing Martha
Raye with Cary Grant!!!

| re .2, oh, I don't know. Actually, I take heart from their
relationship. It's nice, on occasion, to see a conventionally good
looking man fall in love with a woman's personality and intelligence,
instead of just falling for the obligatory model type. If Ted Danson
is really in love with Whoopi Goldberg then my estimation of him, as a
person, has gone up.
It's not that Whoopi is ugly or anything. I don't think she is. She
has charisma, a great smile, talent, personality. It's just that she's
not the type of conventional beauty that would be found on the cover of
Cosmo, and I think it's refreshing to see a handsome guy fall for a
woman who looks a little bit more like the rest of us do.

Ted doesn't look as handsome (though he's still far from
ugly) out of makeup. But your point is taken ...

203.5 | Who REALLY looks like Whoopi? | 32198::KRUEGER | | Wed Jun 02 1993 10:54 | 12 |
| How about the fact that he "fell" for Whoopi while he was married?
That hardly puts him on MY pedestal. I have always liked Whoopi
Goldberg and have never thought of Ted Danson as handsome. I think
their looks are irrelevant; that's not why I have a hard time seeing
them together. I saw a Barbara Walters special when he was still with
his wife (about 18 months ago) and he told of how he took care of his
wife and brand new baby when his wife had a stroke during childbirth,
and the adoption of their second daughter. He was raving about his
wife and his life as a married father then; this thing with Whoopi no
matter WHAT she looks like kind of takes the glow off the interview.

> How about the fact that he "fell" for Whoopi while he was married?
It happens. In fact, just about every couple I know in the baby boomer
generation formed while one of them was involved with someone else. In the
psychological community it's called "serial monogamy". In Hollywood it's even
more a fact of life than in the rest of the world.
Fact is that Mrs. Danson is probably much better off than most people who
get dumped since movie stars tend to have lots more money to add to the divorce
settlement than most people who break up.
Life goes on and there are worse things in life than having to endure being
an unhappy millionaire.

I remember that interview with Barbara Walters, too. They tried to
make a point that he was happily married and not at all like his
character from Cheers. I feel bad for his wife and kids. No amount
of money can replace a husband and father.

| re .5, & .6, I've been on both sides of this situation. When I was
married I fell in love with someone else, and, at another time in my
life, a man I was living with and was in love with, fell in love with
another woman and left me. People are human, it happens, sometimes it
hurts for awhile, people learn to roll with the punches, and life goes
on.
Maybe there's some greater cosmic justice that thinks it's time for
Whoopi to have some love and romance. :-)

203.9 | Whoopi's love life | 32198::KRUEGER | | Wed Jun 02 1993 14:36 | 7 |
| According to Whoopi on yet another BW special, she's never had any
problems have "love and romance" ... she's twice divorced and says she
doesn't ever want to get married again because she's "just not very
good at it" ... she's got a problem with sharing and compromise. Maybe
she's "Sam's" type after all!

When I was a kid there was a new serial every Saturday.
We were wedded to them.

| This movie had the look and feel of a made-for-tv movie. Danson simply
reprises his Sam Malone lady-killer persona, Whoopie just sleepwalks
through the whole thing and the rest of the cast (Will Smith, Paul
Rodriguez,Nia Person, et.al) do their best, but...
