| Old plot: Heinlien's _Double_Star_ is almost the same story,
_Prisoner_of_Zenda_ has parallels. The similiar Jacob-and-Esau
plot is older than either.
How believable is it, i.e. how much disbelief must one suspend?

I didn't find it very hard to suspend disbelief, principally because
Kline is a good actor and I don't think people find it all that hard to
believe the President has his foibles just like the rest of us. It
speaks very tellingly of the isolation of the office. Everyone you
would expect to figure it out does.
I liked it quite a bit -- it's got a happy ending without having a
mushy ending. Ben Kingsley does very well in his small role. A few
Senators illustrate they chose the wrong career. :-)

| Very enjoyable. It was a light comedy with not too many belly laughs.
It was a very pleasant night out at the movies. We usually rent tapes
and rarely see a first run at a theater so I was definitly pleased.
I also enjoyed all the Wash DC scenes and thought they did a fabulous
job of duplicating the interior of the White House.
Kline's character was similar to Bush but I thought he did a great job
of portraying a president.

| I *loved* this movie! Maybe I was just in the right mood for it, but I got a
couple of pretty good belly laughs out of it. The rest of the time, I was
just enchanted. (Of course, I'm a big Kevin Kline fan, which helps... :-) )
It is definitely a fable/fairy tale, but you really want to believe it could
happen (although of course you know it couldn't).
Best movie I've seen in a long time. Four stars out of four for me.

drop from #1! DAVE WAS OUTSTANDING!!!! Finally, something to blow the
top off the box office!
I could find nothing wrong with the movie -- no flaws, no errors, no
nothin' (and I *always* look for them)!
LOVED IT...LOVED IT...LOVED IT...
I think, maybe, a 10+ !

I'm anxious to see this movie, I love one scene I've seen in the
previews (I'll write it behind a form feed just in case...)
You see Dave in this dock machinery (I don't know what it's called,
Sigourney Weaver was in one in the movie Aliens) where it has large
mechanical arms and he spreads them out (liking spreading out his arms)
and says "I caught a fish THIS BIG!" (meaning the length of the
outstretched arms.
I thought that was hilarious and knew right away that this was one of
my must see movies!

| I don't know. Having seen Bob Roberts a short while ago and now this
it makes me sad. Why do we have to go to movies to see how our
government is run? If we're not going to give our president's any real
power why not just turn D.C. over to Hollywood and let them run the
show. It would certainly be a lot more glamourous and people would
probabaly tune in for it every day.
Everyday we hear the latest popularity poll for Bill Clinton. Can you
stand it? How would you like to be rated on a daily basis? How does
one keep up one's rating when all one's ideas and programs are blocked
and pulled apart before even being implemented.
I thought Sigourney was excellent in this, in fact, the most
believeable.

| I think the difference between "Bob Roberts" and "Dave" is that "Bob
Roberts" was a chilling and pessimistic movie, while "Dave" is a much
more pleasant, upbeat fable. I loved "Bob Roberts", by the way--its
satire was brilliant and right on target. But a big part of the appeal
of "Dave", I think, is its more upbeat outlook.

on the Larry King show in the movie. Yet another conspiracy theory,
this time he was correct. (Not to mention a similar appearance on
TV last night in "Wild Palms").
With all the word-of-mouth and publicity I'd have thought the theatre
would be crowded. Maybe 10 people showed up for the noon viewing at
Premiere 8 in Nashua/Merrimack.

I thought, with Bill Clinton in the White House, that we've already given
Hollywood a strong influence in the White House... Afterall, Bill is friends
with lots of the Hollywood Left.

made in the movie... too liberal, too make-you-feel-good type political
statements...)

If you think that everyone that wants to work rather then
take welfare is wrong and it you think that paying defense contractors
for not doing work is right you have a point. I know conservatives
love the idea of welfare soooooo much. Uh oh, I thought
I was in the soapbox notesfile. Sorry. ;)

I didn't say that... I said that the political view was liberal (i.e. how
to solve the problem was from a liberal viewpoint...), so if you're a liberal
then you'll agree with the solutions in the movie (actually, I was only
thinking about the little bit with Dave's "Job" bill). The actual problems
shown in the movie are problems, I don't disagree with you. I just disagree
with the solutions.

| Maybe a combination of Bob Roberts and Dave would have worked for me.
Bob ROberts was too cynical and Dave was too applie-pie-in-the-sky.
But then again maybe a movie entitled "Sigourney" or "Hillary" playing
the lead role would be the blockbuster we've been waiting for.

old daughter. We all loved it. Truly a movie "the whole family can
enjoy".
I've had the experience lately of going to movies I thought were going
to be merely "OK" and coming ouy saying "Wow, that was a really great
movie." (I like when that hppens). Dave was like that. (The last one
that was for me was "A League Of Their Own").

Dave is finally out here in the UK, and I went to see it last night. I
enjoyed, if it had been a more cynical satire (never seen Bob Roberts,
but going by the descriptions, something like that), I probably
wouldn't. The nice thing from a non-American viewpoint is that it isn't
having a go at the American political system, it's having a go at
politics in general, and that will help it out here.
I've always liked Kline as an actor, but in Dave the one thing that
struck me was how easily he played a hard-unemotional President (albeit
briefly) and a happy, up beat guy-on-the-street. The two characters
couldn't have been more different, but he played both well.

| A frothy, light comedy which gives one a frothy, light time. Not too
much preaching about the evils of government. My favorite part: when
Oliver Stone is proposing that a conspiracy is happening at the White
House ("If you look at the pictures of the President before and after
the stroke...") A guy who can poke fun at himself is OK by me. :)
Also liked Ben Kingsley's dignified VP.
