158.0. "Passenger 57" by 12368::michaud (Jeff Michaud, DECnet/OSI) Tue Apr 27 1993 02:40

Wesley Snipes stars as an airline security instructor who
just lands a new high paying job as a security consultant
for some airline. On his flight from the East coast
to his new job on the West Coast the jet is highjacked
by an airline terrorist who is being escorted by the
feds to CA for a trial.

I was expecting alot from this movie, but frankly after
seeing "Under Seige" which I surprisingly enjoyed, I
was very disapointed by this one big time.

I'm not sure it can be blamed on the actors either, they
seem to of started with a poorly written script.

	Nothing creative, thumbs down.

    I liked it.

Having just seen Boiling Point, Passenger 57 at least restores hope
that yes, Virginia, Wesley Snipes CAN be an action hero.

Okay, parts were silly (but hardly siller than parts of Under Seige, she
notes, realizing that, of course, one's Silly Tolerance for
the Action Genre varies from person to person, movie to movie). And
the bad guy was really cool. :)

    Worth a rental.

**.75 out of **** (*.75 at least for the bad guy alone)

Wesley Snipes looks like he could be Arsinio's twin.

In the movie, one of the passengers (an old lady) does indeed mistake
him for Arsenio Hall. She is convinced that it is him and does the arm
pumping notion (along with the yell) much to his chagrin when he is
trying to remain inconspicuous.

I saw the movie last night , and i thought it was v. poor . There
were loads of holes in the script.
    Such as <spoiler>

When Snipes and the 'flight attendant' were in the avionics bay
under the floor , the girl said the plane was a "Jumbo Jet!!! " which
even my aeronautical knowledge knew it was either a DC or a VC 10 .

When Snipes broke away from the 2 policemen on the stairs . How
    did he know that :-

    	a) Cane had left the plane

    	b) Had gone to the fairground

and c) after catching Cane , Snipes said there was another one still to
catch and he's wearing such and such ( How did he know this ).

How come all the FBI were taking orders from a civvy !!!!

How at the very end of the film when the chief of police said
"you didn't happen to see my wifes gun " and then the girl laughed
at this remark . How the heck did she know what he was talking
    	about ?

But the Jumbo Jet remark beats the lot ,

    	crap film .

    	2/10

	A DC-10 isn't a jumbo jet? In any case, she's just a flight
attendant, not a pilot, you expect her not to make a mistake?

If I remember, this was explained in the film. Snipes knew
Cane's MO (ie. covering his getaway with mass confusion/death).

I like to watch movies like "passenger 57" for the action scenes only.
I don't usually take careful note of plot lines and small nuances
unless the movie is something like "wuthering heights"

The Boeing 747 is the only one usually called a "jumbo jet".

Widebodies is the common term for large jets like the 747, 767, DC10, MD11,
Airbus, and the L1011. The VC10 was *never* a jumbo jet.

I also just saw this movie and I agree with many of the previous notes
regarding some of the dialogs etc.

The opening scene was also quite starnge. I mean if this terrorist knew
that they were coming to get him, then why even start with the operation.
That made absolutely no sense at all.

I also thought it quite strange that on his flight to L.A.
he was sitting back with the "poor" people. I mean, the guy was just hired
as a vice president. I can't believe that a vice president flies
economy.

<spoiler>

I also find it hard to believe that this Rane character could
infiltrate the airlines employees so easily with his people.

Thanks,

Cb.
