155.0. "Sergio Leone" by 42721::IVES_J (One i-node short of a file system) Mon Apr 26 1993 04:58

    I'm interested in the films of Sergio Leone, father ofr the spaghetti
    western and the director of :-

    Fistful of Dollars
    For a Few Dollars More
    The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
    Once Upton a Time in the west
    Fistfull of Dynamite
    Once Upon A Time in America.

    Can anyone tell me of any other films of his.
    I was inspired to put this note in by re-watching Once Upon a Time in
    America over the weekend, IMHO a brilliant film.

    Well you educated me on this.....I would've never guessed that the same
    director of Fistful of Dollars woulda been the same director of Once
    Upon A Time in America....is this the same movie I'm thinking of about
    the Jewish mafia?

155.2Great director, though he should've stayed away from female charactersESGWST::RDAVISSome justice, some peaceMon Apr 26 1993 18:479
    Yes, Leone did both the early Eastwood westerns and the Jewish mafia
    movie. On the big screen, the similarity is more obvious -- the
    dramatic use of widescreen, the wacko closeups, the operatic macho
    sweep...

    I've also seen "A Fistful of Dynamite" under the title "Duck You
    Sucker", but the base note has all the Leone movies I can remember.

Well, the ever-questionable USENET databases add one more to the list:
"The Colossus of Rhodes", 1961, with Rory Calhoun.
155.4Nobody remembers MY NAME IS NOBODY?30188::NIEMIWed Apr 28 1993 12:565
    Sergio Leone's MY NAME IS NOBODY.

    Henry Fonda's last Western role. Also stars Terence Hill.

    1974, rated PG.

        I remember "My name is nobody", I saw it way back when it was
    	shown at a drive in as part of a double feature. Even though
    	it wasn't an outstanding movie, I liked it.

    I'm pretty sure that some other Italian director did all the Terence
    Hill "Nobody" films, but I forgot to look it up last night...

155.7My name is not Sergio LeoneKOLFAX::WIEGLEBQuestion RealityThu Apr 29 1993 14:214
    The director of "My Name is Nobody" (1974 - Italian-French-German)
    is Tonino Valerii.

    RE: 6,7 I guess you're correct, however Leone's connected somehow...

    Went back and look at the jacket and it does give the executive
    producer as Fulvio Morsella and states "directed by Tonino Valerii".
    What's interesting, however, is that the front side states "Sergio
    Leone presents..." and the back side states "Sergio Leone's ultimate
    Italian Western is lavished with changing landscapes..."

    Anyone know how Leone is involved?

155.9To Add to The Confusion45464::WHITWOOD_NNigel WhitwoodWed May 05 1993 12:4410
    My Name is Nobody was recently on British TV and was billed as being
    directed by Sergio Leone. It definetely bore many of Leone's trade
    marks including a score by Eric Macaroni (or whatever his name is).

    In retrospect it did appear to be somewhat disjointed in terms of
    directorial style - maybe it was a joint effort.

    Regards

    Tonino Valeri was indeed the director, but the script was written by
    Sergio Leone.
    (according to my movie dictionary).

	My dictionary lists Leone as story-writer not screenplay-writer.

		and also

	Sign of the Gladiator - 1959	- co-screenplay
	The Last Days of Pompeii - 1960 - co-screenplay
	Duel of the Titans - 1961 	- co-screenplay
	Sodom and Gomorrah - 1963	- co-directed
