123.0. "Boomerang" by 22558::MINYOUNGLEE (I LOVE WALPURGIS) Wed Apr 07 1993 23:20
I saw this movie in a theater, I rented it again yesterday.
This movie is great.
Eddie and his friends talk about racism while playing
billiards-it's funny.
Angella (I can't remember her exact name) was very gorgeous, almost my ideal.
And there was a poster in the movie that said
"when you know who you love" which was quite impressive.
She said good-bye to Eddie's friend in multi-languages
I think she tried Korean, but it came out more like Chinese.

Hasn't anyone seen Boomerang? I thought it was pretty good. Eddie is
still a suave macho man but gets taken down a peg by his female boss.
Grace Jones is worth the price of admission. She plays her outrageous
self, well maybe she's not quite this outrageous in real life.
He works for an advertising agency. The commercials are wicked. (as in
wicked good) - my opinion, but not to be seen on prime time TV.
Go see it if you like glamour, luxury, and romance.

I totally agree with the base noter. It was a well rounded, fun,
entertaining movie. I think that Eddie did well plus his surrounding
cast of characters, and they were some characters. I recommend this
movie highly!!!

I also must agree that this was definitly a good movie.... The
characters and the story line were great. If you want to see the
"male/female" relationship from a new perspective, this is the movie.
On a serious note: One day I got into a conversation here at work
about movies with some of my co-workers. When I suggested that they
go see this move I was surprised to get "negative" responces. Some
people did not want to see the movie because they considered it to
be a "Black Movie". Well..... I told them it was their loss because
this movie was a romantic comedy that anyone could relate to and the
"race" of the characters does not define the story. I don't know or
care if any of them went to see the movie. I bet a lot of people are
gonna miss a good movie because they mistakenly see this as a
"Black" movie instead of just a movie.

I'm afraid that's why the responses are so low or non-existent. What a
pity.

RE: Eddie Murphy, Prince of comedy
I haven't gone because Eddie hasn't put out a decent movie for a few
years. (Coming to America, Harlem Nights, 48hrsII, etc, stunk IMO)
I his last movies he's acted like the prince of humor, and IMO, didn't
work to hard to get a laugh. In the last films he's used every Murphy
"funny" expression, and rereused his old lines. (Look at 48hoursII for
a perfect example)
From the trailors, this looked like another post-Eddie movie. (I'm
sorry Ed, but I just don't owe you a thing.) Maybe this one's got
him back on track.

I will not see this movie for 2 reasons:
Eddie Murphy, and Robin Givens.
If those two weren't in it, I would.

Hi K.C., welcome back.
Let me guess, you are a Mike Tyson fan and you are still upset that Robin
Givens dumped him. But I have no clue as to what you might have against Eddie
Murphy.

re .7, I don't know what he/she (?) has against Eddie Murphy but I find
him annoying. I think he acts like he thinks he's god's gift to the
rest of the human race. Now, *he* is somebody who strikes me as being
obnoxious.
Also, the movie got a few bad reviews.

RE: .6
Thanx, George! :^)
As for your question, .7 hit the nail right on the head with Murphy,
and Givens is the exact female version, IMO. They are both so "Oh,
look at me; I'm so great and beautiful!" Ugh. I don't find either of
them at all talented.
And no, I can't stand Mike Tyson. :^)
Shame, tho. The REST of the cast is wonderful! I saw the ad, and they
showed everyone else first, and I was thinking "Yeah!" Then they
showed Givens and I thought, "Well...I dunno." Then they showed
Murphy, and it was "NO WAY!"
I was thinking of MAYYYYYYYBBBEEEEEE renting it (or borrowing it) when
it came out on tape, but from the reviews I've seen here, I think I'd
be better off just skipping it.

I'm with K.C.
I used to think Eddie Murphy was the funniest man alive (I enjoyed
Delirious immensely!), but lately he's really fallen off, and frankly
I won't see a movie with him in it just because he's in it anymore.
I need more of a reason now.
As someone else said earlier, what a pity... :-(

Yep. The Arrogant Eddie routine would be cool if he remembered to
make us laugh. But "hitting a laugh line" isn't a given because you
have previously put out some funny stuff.
As far as Robin is concerned... Her "marriage" to Mike was pretty
telling, I thought.

Hey..... sounds like this has become more of a Dog Eddie and Robin note
than a Boomerang note......
Now don't get me wrong... I also felt that Eddie's last couple of
movies were lacking and his ego was just a bit toooooooooo big....
and
I definitly cannot stand Robin..... I would love to see her
"fall on her face"
But.... I went to see the movie and actually did enjoy it..... I think
your not gonna see any "great" reviews for this movie because of the
anti Eddie/Robin feelings that exist.... ((just look at most of the
responces in this note)). This movie....the story line....the
supporting cast...and little insights, morals, and lessons it has
makes it an ok movie in my book. No matter how I personally feel
about Eddie.

I never liked Robin Givens until I saw her on Oprah a few months back.
She was very sweet and sincere and talked about her painful (in more
ways than one!) marriage to Tyson, without berating him at all. I
think she is definitely misunderstood and underrated. I saw her in
"Rage in Harlem" and she was outstanding; not to mention the TV series
she was in with Oprah. She hasn't seemed to me to be full of herself;
Eddie, on the other hand, does. But I'll see this anyway, because I
still remember how funny he CAN be!

Forget your opinions bout Eddie Murphy or Robin Givens you snobs. Go
out and watch this film, it's an O.K movie.
Givens is excellent and the support cast, well I'm still giggling bout
the mad girl next door.
Tony
ps for all the slagging in this note, this isn't one bad review of the
film!

Sorry Tony, but I'm entitled to an option. I haven't enjoyed an Eddie
Murphy or Robin Givens film yet - which I why I won't pay money to see
the movie - I can wait to see it on TV and then I might - might -
change my mind.
That I believe is how the system works..

Re. 4
i'm the same as yourself,Mr Murphy has not had a good movie
for years & this just seems to add to the list of turkeys.
I know a can't say too much since i have not watched it,
but,i just find him very UNfunny. Harlem Nights has got to
take the Golden Turkey for Eddie Murphy movies.

| I watched this movie again, while on the road in a hotel room...
Since I watch bits/parts, I must admit off the bat, that maybe I
only watched the bad parts. (While I really don't believe it)
I thought it stunk. People insinuated in the past "Boomerang" note
that the lack of replies shows some type of racism, or something to
that effect.
Well, this movie, IMO bordered on being guilty of some racism itself.
The few times a white person hit the screen, they were so thoroughly
stereo-typed, I thought I'd gag.
An attempt to play upon aged stereo-types directed at some other group
would have surely sent a fury of criticism to the doors of Hollywood.
I have never seen an entire airplane flight of African Americans, and
I fly weekly. While I guess its possible, I have a feeling I
understand the motivations behind such scenes...
Really disappointed in Eddie

I've seen part of it twice this week, and I really wasn't im-
pressed. Eddie has done much better in his earlier movies.
But Robin Givens is a doll.
And its good to see Eartha Kitt still "purring", even though
she's showing her age.

re.5/6
Plenty of British films never mind Scottish films would leave
this Hollywood Hype on a Heap....You Can't Polish A Turd
To say its crap its being pretty mild,
its an utter waste of celluloid.
