If he can't take critisism he's in the wrong business ...
... in any case it's no secret he can't act if he has
to speak (and luckily he didn't have many lines to speak
in this film). Just watch the Sat. Night Live episode
that he hosted ......

I thought this was the best Seigal movie, which isn't saying much...
I thought the crack-SEAL-team lumbering on *one* slow chopper, without
considering the ships AA potential was a little weak. I don't think
the SEALs are that stupid.
Given the situation, I'm sure they mighta given those guys (the best of
the best) some state of the art helos, and they wouldn't have put all
their seal eggs in one basket, IMO.
The Navyman who didn't know how to load a weapon (he was a laundry
person for the ship) and had to be taught by Miss August 1989, who
not only got a killer instinct within 1/2 hour, but also became
proficient in aiming, loading, etc, that she instructed the laundry
navy_man how to lock and load.
The last problem I had was with how they wounded Killer_Segal in the
movie. This guys dodgin' laser sighted guns, throwin' knives into
peoples throats from 80 feet, and basically acting like a super hero
from a Ludlum novel, and all the sudden a matey throws a rusty
grappling hook, almost killing Stevie. Seems that was the only thing
in the movie *I* coulda ducked! ;-)
Anyway, not bad for a Segal movie.

| I thought the film wasnt bad , a good action with some interesting
shots of the ship.
When the guy who plays Miles O'brian (Colmen ????? sp) was telling
Tommy lee jones that all of the ship was blocked off for and aft , I
was expecting him to say " Warp engines at full power and the phasers
banks and shields for and aft are working correctly captain "
Just my 2c worth .

117.6 | DREDNOUGHT=BATTLESHIP ??????????? | 42110::CABEL | | Tue Apr 13 1993 09:51 | 13 |
| Just another quibble . At about the first 20min , there is a commentry
on the ships T.V about the Missouri being de-commisened , the
commentator says that the Missouri is "this is americas last
dreadnought , to be used in war" or something ?
The question is I thought that a BATTLE SHIP ,was a battle ship and a
DISTROYER was a distroyer , and so on . am I wrong or what .

Battleships certainly used to be considerably bigger than Destroyers, but then
again, you Americans have probably changed that definition as well :-)

| In what why have they changed the definitions ? But the question is
still the same , is there any differance to a battleship and a
dreadnought , is it size, speed, armaments, thickness in plating , what?

I'm not sure but wasn't the dreadnought (as a class of ship) pre-WWI, bigger
than a battleship.
The destroyer is certainly smaller and lighter in every sense than both if my
memory of the above is correct.

HMS Dreadnought was a British Pre-WWI Battleship that totally changed
the design of large warships. All the major navies started building
copies, and these larger battleships became commonly called
'Dreadnoughts', especially around the WWI period.
After a while the name faded from use, and battleship
again became more common. It still crops up from time to time. Missouri
represented the end of the battleship line.
They have nothing what so ever to do with destroyers, which are much
smaller ships.
I believe that most of Under Siege was shot in USS Alabama. Missouri
figured in the exterior shots (Alabama is museum ship).

Not entirely unrelated to Movies, see Topic 199. At 199.48 I have
posted a lengthy list of Naval Movies, concentrating on historical
accuracy and known filming details. If anyone has any updates I'd like
to have them. My own film books are rather sparse...

something, we'll just have to make a movie about it.) But what fun's a

117.20 | I don't recommend this one | 58378::P_CHAPLINSKY | | Mon Jan 03 1994 16:03 | 13 |
| This was the second movie I rented over the holidays; recommended
by my brother-in-law & his wife. I didn't like it. It was
predictable, the lines were awful, and as for Miss '89, well I
wished Steven would have left her locked in the locker. The role
this actress played, my husband & I agreed, was very degrading. I
don't look forward to seing her again (even dressed).
Thumbs down from me.

Baps is the way they say it, as in "Baps oot!" (Not that I happen to
encourage the use of such expressions....)
