88.0. "The Little Foxes" by DSSDEV::RUST () Mon Mar 22 1993 20:35
One of many "heard of for ages but never got around to seeing" movies,
I finally caught up with this one - ho, hum. I suppose the main plot
twist was wildly sensational at one time, but to a kid who grew up on
Kraft Suspense Theater and Alfred Hitchcock and any horror film I could
persuade my folks to let me see, the single cold-blooded act in _this_
film (which had been telegraphed from the beginning lest we might miss
it) fell rather flat. (This, despite Bette Davis doing some nice "cold
and imperious" work.)
There _was_ some nice sibling-rivalry byplay among the principals, but
it was all rather slow-paced; the effective scenes were all solidly
framed by filler.
It was worth it, though, to see a very young Dan Duryea whining his way
through the part of the craven and worthless son. Alas, he didn't get
to do much - but what he did was choice. ;-)
