82.1 | Too much violence but Fonda was superb | SSDEVO::WOESTEHOFF | | Fri Mar 26 1993 16:35 | 10 |
| I saw this last weekend. I agree with .0 in that Bridgette Fonda did
a superb job of acting. I hope to see more of her in the future.
She also appeared to be quite athletic in the action scenes.
However, most of the other performers were only average. Like many
Hollywood movies, this one had more violence than was needed. I also had
a hard time believing that Nina, who looked about 110 lbs, could send guys
twice her size flying across a room with one punch. But, I guess you have
to use your imagination a little when you go to the movies.

82.2 | Bridget Fonda - an actress for the ;90s | TNPUBS::NAZZARO | UMass - 2-time A10 Champ! | Mon Mar 29 1993 17:41 | 12 |
| Incredibly high violence level in this movie, some of it gratuitous,
but some of it very necessary. There is one particularly jolting
violence perpetrated by Fonda's character in the opening scene that
nearly sent me right out of my seat.
And yes, Fonda is incredible. Her transformation is handled well - you
got a feeling for time elapsing. And the ending is handled with a
surprisingly subtle touch that fit perfectly.
8.5 of 10, if you can stand the violence

82.3 | ZZZZzzzz.... | STAR::MARISON | Scott Marison | Mon Mar 29 1993 18:01 | 9 |
| From what I hear, this movie doesn't live up to it's French counterpart,
"La Femme Nikata".
From what I've seen of the previews, and from reviews I've read/seen,
it's just typical hollywood.

Took myself to see this last night. Eh. Had a little trouble
suspending my disbelief for some reason. I thought the ending was
predictable and flat. The performances were good all around. You
gotta love Harvey Keitel. Even Olivia D'Abo's bit part was
entertaining. The principals weren't given a whole lot to work with,
though.

82.5 | La Femme Nikita | 17655::LAYTON | | Thu Apr 15 1993 13:21 | 4 |
| La Femme Nikita is available either subtitled or dubbed...if you
haven't seen it, do so. It is also particularly violent.

| Rented this last weekend, and it was much better than I expected. I'm
not much into violent films, but the violence in this, although there's
a lot if it, is kind of necessary for the plot to develop.
There's quite a bit of suspension of disbelief required in this one,
but it's at least a movie that will hold your interest.

82.7 | The Assassin | YUPPY::SECURITY | Security @LDO | Thu Jan 27 1994 06:13 | 12 |

Came out here in the UK under the title 'The Assassin'
Hollywood amazed me this time (dosen't happen often) by sticking so
closely to the original, while not doing too bad a job of it, IMO.
I found the violence a tad more intense than what I'm used to or was
expecting, but the Hotel room explosion was a pleasant twist
regardless. (this dosen't happen in 'La femme Nikita')
And that L7 track just kicked a$$.

82.8 | | ACESMK::CHELSEA | Mostly harmless. | Tue Feb 01 1994 13:13 | 5 |
| I saw _Point of No Return_ first, then _La Femme Nikita_. The
Hollywood remake really did adhere closely to the original. To me, the
biggest difference was one of tone. The Hollywood movie is sharper and
neater; the French version is murkier and doesn't worry about a few
dangling threads -- life isn't always wrapped up in a neat package.

I watched this the other night and must have missed this. What part
she play ? I remember Ms D'Abo from the Star Trek TNG episode "True Q".

82.10 | who's the cleaner | 8269::CAMERON_S | | Tue May 24 1994 21:13 | 3 |
| Was Harvey Kietel the one who plays the cleaner. If so he did an
incredible job. That was one of the best things in the movie, besides
Bridgette.

Yes it was. I liked the line he had during the cleaning scene
where he matter of factly declares:
That one's still alive.

Actually, it was :
*she's* not dead.
He said it like he had asked for whole wheat bread at a restaurant
and gotten white - *that's* not wheat. Good delivery...

Nah, that's not the way it happened - isn't this the scene where he's
piled the bodies in the wading pool or something to dump acid on them,
and when he pours acid on one she starts flailing around?
Not deadpan at all! More like "Jeesh - can't you turkeys get anything right?"
Actually, the whole "cleaner" part was the weakest part of the movie.
Call this guy in for damage control, and he starts gunning more folks down
and can't even tell the live ones from the corpses.
In the original (La Femme Nikita), it was even worse. The cleaner
there was a madman/clown, a lot more like that character on the old
Muppet Show who like to blow things up (why would I think of him right now?).
