| I saw this movie a while ago and I loved it! I thought Jeremy Irons
was identical to Claus Von Bulow and his accent was great.

| Well, my faith in the movie-viewing taste of a friend of mine hath been
somewhat restored, although I still really can't forgive them for
thinking that Under Seige was nifty. Oh well. It gives me something
to tease about.
Based on commetary from said friend about this movie, I went and rented
it. And boy howdy, I liked it. I've always been fond of Newport, and
it's very interesting to observe that social strata so far and
above mine that it seems positively alien (the Old Money crowd). I
really enjoyed the execution of the plotline and can see where there's
real ambiguity about his guilt or innocence. It was also very easy to
see how people would think Klaus Von Bulow (if the depiction was
marginally correct) was a cold, unloving man who could easily try to
kill his wife. One could also see why he might not be so terribly
unhappy that she was comatose.
Glenn Close does a flake well, especially a rich flake. Jeremey Irons,
well, he could have stood there and talked the whole movie and I
wouldn't have felt ripped off (the man is not much to look upon, but
the voice would melt stone). Ron Silver was great as the Peter Columbo
of attorney's, Alan Dershowitz, dishelved, somewhat frantic, but
likable anyway.
No complaints here. A surprisingly good movie.

| I liked this movie a lot, too. I was very impressed by Jeremy Irons
performance, and was glad when he won an Oscar for Best Actor that
year. However, I would have to disagree with .4 on one thing. I
happen to think Jeremy Irons is, also, quite good looking. I think he
has very interesting and attractive facial features.

Since I was growing up in Rhode Island when these events transpired,
this movie had an interesting angle for me. The impression from the
press one got at the time was overwhelmingly against von Bulow. What I
found particularly intriguing was a portrayal that managed to place
reasonable doubt of his guilt without sanctifying him. Excellent flick.

| I remember reading that people who knew Von Bulow said that Jeremy
Irons was more like Von Bulow than Von Bulow himself!

| While the movie was wonderful (esp. for those, including myself,
who enjoy lurid soap opera disguised as something cultural), I
wish they'd been able to find a way to include the Boston Herald's
front page headline after the maid (Maria Schrallheimer?)

I think Jeremy Irons appearance has gotten better as he's aged.
In Brideshead Revisited (now on cable TV), he looks awkward and
gangly; in the French Lieutenant's Woman, it was hard to see what
the (modern) Streep character saw in him. My wife says he always
looks awful with a moustache, and always looks better with gray
hair -- then again, her taste may be suspect.
