| Funny you said that , I thought the ending could of been better , also
it struck my that the film was made for the christmas season ,
especially the main title them with all the kids , I quite liked the
song , on the sound track of the them who are the two main singers in
it . Also the music sounded a bit like ENYA which was featured in the
funneral scene , the guy who did the music TREVOR HORN & cant think of
the other one , dosent he do enyas music , if so then it was good .

| Isn't it Lisa or Wendy from Prince's old band singing the
Christmas Tree song?
I really liked this move - the effects were wonderful. I really
loved Joan Cusack's character - and it was the first time I
liked Robin Wright in anything. (although I loved "The Princess
Bride", I really didn't care for Buttercup much at all.)

You weren't supposed to care for Buttercup, IMO ... she was a
spoiled brat.

This has to be one of the worst film I've ever seen. The only good
things were the music (good to hear F.G.T.H. stuff again) and Robins
Williams 'Mother Teresa" bit.
The rest you can forget.
Totally weird - and it could have been so good !

77.6 | DIFFERENT DIRECTORS | 42110::CABEL | | Mon Mar 22 1993 05:59 | 62 |
| Barry levison(sp) what other credits dose he have to his name , besides
RAIN MAN
TIN MEN
GOOD MORNING VIETNAM
There are a no. of directors which come to mind , who could of done a
good or even better job . :-
STEVEN SPEILBERG - say no more , the master
to make any movie good.
JOHN LANDIS - He has the credit for making
such different film types ,
if its horror ( AAWIL) ,
ANIMAL HOUSE , ETC.
RICHARD DONNER - His leathel films and
scroodged were good .
JAMES CAMARON - Say nomore , the TOYMINATOR
as williems would say .
major budget and effects
and story .
All these guys have something in comen , they are big guns at hollywood
and can make any film very good .
Other candidates who could do a good job , but might be on the weird
side would be :-
RIDLEY SCOTT - Aliens meets its match . with deckered
hot on the generals heels .
TONY SCOTT - The plane scene could be in the TOP GUN
style , with nascars raming the robots .
TIM BURTON - He could use the help of BAT MAN with
friends to save the day .
DAVID CRONNENBERG - Well say no more him and David
lynch could make it well werid .
THE ZUCKER BROS. - They would make it quite
entertaining , and very funny ,
with lt. frank dreben(sp) .
NICHOLES MEYER
(sp)JOHN MCTERRINEN - They can all make it action packed
GEORGE LUCAS and exciting .
These are just some of the people who I think could've made the film
more interesting or maybe better .
Any more to mention ?

77.8 | And a disagreement | QUARRY::reeves | Jon Reeves, ULTRIX compiler group | Mon Mar 22 1993 19:22 | 14 |
| I'm not convinced -- but then, I liked this movie more than most people
seemed to. First, as for Spielberg being infallible: have you seen
1941? Have you seen Empire of the Sun? Cameron? Well, he probably
would have done a better job with the shootout at the end, but he
certainly hasn't shown any evidence of the light touch this would have
needed. Donner? Interesting possibility, and the fact that he's
already made "The Toy" would confuse the heck out of filmographers;
"Ladyhawke" also serves as an interesting case in point, since it
needed a similar touch to pull it off. Landis? Lots of potential, but
it's arguably been about 10 years since he's made a decent movie.
But all this is pretty academic, since it was Levinson's script, and as
a glance at the previous list shows, he's been pretty reluctant to give
up a script since he started directing.

77.9 | Glad to see I'm not the only one who liked it! | USABLE::GOOD | Michael Good | Wed Apr 07 1993 19:23 | 4 |
| Goodness, I thought I was the only person on the planet who liked this
movie and didn't also have a financial stake in it! I found it a
marvelous movie, both whimsical and topical. Throwaway lines and sight
gags, like the Volvo joke, are funnier than many entire movies.

| I really didn't care that people didn't like "Toys", I fell in love
with it the first time I saw it. Robin Williams and Joan Cusack worked
so well together. But then again, I think Robin Williams is one of the
best anyways.
I liked it so much, I taped it off of HBO for my movie collection.
