Bleak!....thats what comes to mind when I think of this movie.....
One of the *six* rentals over the 'blizzard' weekend. I was looking
forward to this ever since I saw it advertised as being at the
theaters. I did like Christine Lahti in just about all her scenes and
I liked the way the duo had a limited amount of clothing and it showed
in what they wore throughout. Just to cover my butt I'll put my
opinions behind the form feed....
I was soooo bored with this that I spent lots and lots and lots of time
looking at their clothes, the car, the background etc... I felt the
story dragged on and on. I was glad to see they (the writers) didn't
fall into too many cliches - I was glad to see the house wasn't this
beautiful mountain-top resort - I was glad they didn't have a happy
ending with the 18 year old daughter showing up and I'm glad they
didn't show Meg (whatshername) up and married to the truck driver.
Awesome scenery of Alaska (my dream vacation) but dreary storyline.
I'd be real interested in other's opinions of this movie since either I
missed something totally or I just had movie burn-out.

| 70.1 | I liked it... | VAXWRK::STHILAIRE | just another tricky day | Mon Mar 15 1993 15:03 | 18 |
Well, I loved this movie. I saw it first last spring when it was in
the theaters, and then rented it and watched it again a couple of
months ago. I even enjoyed it the 2nd time around. I felt that I
could identify a lot with both of the main characters. I thought
parts of it were sad, but that other parts were filled with hope, and
that some scenes were very funny. I didn't find it anymore dreary,
than I find life. I thought it had a mix of ups and downs, just as I
think real life does. Christine Lahti is one of my favorite actresses
and I thought she was good in this as well.
So, I liked it a lot. I tend to like road movies (and novels), anyway,
and especially when they concern women, (or minorities - as in Thelma &
Louise or The Living End), and, as a single/divorced woman, living on
my own, without much money, and a long trail of broken relationships
behind me, I felt I could especially relate to these two characters.

I loved this movie too. But then I will watch a movie just for the
cinematography, of which I thought this film's was excellent. I
thought it was a fun and adventurous tale. I saw it on a big screen, I
often wonder if this has a lot to do with my liking or not liking some
films.

I saw this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It felt a lot like
Thelma and Louise to me, except without the pervasive sense of
inevitability of T&L.
I appreciated the writers' lack of cop-outs and not taking the
predictable paths. The two women were strongly drawn and acted and
were totally believable. I felt that the script didn't drag at all- I
laughed out loud quite a few times. The story was surreal, improbable
and yet quite believable. In a similar manner to "The Crying Game", the
two main characters take a less travelled path at right angles to
'normal' and yet are real enough people that the viewer can still feel
that it *could* happen and can identify with the leads.
The scenery was *awesome* even on the small screen. Equal to the "Year
of the Comet". :^)
Cheers,
George
