44.0. "Invaders from Mars (1953)" by ALPHA::reeves (Jon Reeves, ULTRIX compiler group) Tue Feb 16 1993 18:28

The year in the title is to distinguish it from the 1986 remake, which
I'm led to believe was much worse.

A spaceship lands in a suburban backyard and starts turning people into
zombies controlled by the Martians. It's up to the little boy whose
backyard they landed in to alert the proper authorities and save the world.

Classic McCarthy era premise, and over all this is acceptable; it's
probably better on video, though, because you can fast-forward past the
large amounts of padding, consisting of stock footage of tanks and
jeeps, and a pointless recap of the whole film near the end.
Incredibly cheesy special effects, including obvious zippers in the
"skin" of the aliens, but it doesn't matter that much.
