Hi, Digital Unix & Oracle Rdb for UNIX. is it possible to install/use SQL/Services V7.0 while leaving the Rdb environment V6.1-03 ? This works for OpenVMS platforms of course. I noticed that SQL/Services installation script checks for Rdb V7.0. Adri

Hi Adri, Because Rdb does not support multi-versioning on Digital Unix, neither can SQL/Services. Therefore, if you install SQL/Services V7.0 on a Digital Unix system running Rdb 6.1, you'll render the SQL/Services server system unusable. Functionally speaking, SQL/Services 7.0 is more or less equivalent to SQL/Services 6.1. However, SQL/Services 7.0 does have a bunch of new features, most especially in the area of system management. Plus some bug fixes of course. However, if you want to use the new system management features, or need any of the bug fixes, then you'll have to upgrade to Rdb 7.0 as well. Si |
