751.0. "Rdbexpert 1.2 running and running, when's it quit?" by BROKE::BASTINE () Wed May 14 1997 12:35

RdbExpert 1.2 (running against an Oracle7 db).
Oracle7 V7.3
NT

Customer put in all the information for expert to run (mainly took defaults)
and started running expert last Friday. He asked to collect the db, schema,
instance and workload information. It completed the db, schema, and instance
collection within 5 minutes, and has since been hung on the workload collection.
The little box tells him that it collected 332 of 440 and has been stuck there
since Friday... it is still running as of 5/14/97 - 5 days now.

Anyone know why it might still be running?

I haven't asked him to "cancel" the collection yet, in case you need information
from the system to determine what is happening... so it is still running.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Renee Bastine

It is a known bug in 1.2. We went into an infinite loop trying to
validate a certain type of view. Can they get 1.3.5?

That helps!

:)

I'll mention 1.3.5, they are running 7.3, so not sure if they can upgrade
to 7.3.3 yet...

Thanks for the help!

As an FYI,

Depending on what your customer is doing, 7.3.3 may not be required.
I'm using 1.3.5 against my local 7.2 database fine...
751.5Do we know what activities require 7.3.3BROKE::BASTINEThu May 15 1997 11:3510
That's great!!

Do you have a list of what "depending on what you are doing" will allow you
to keep your old version of Oracle?

What features of 1.3.5 require 7.3.3, maybe that is an easier question?

Thanks!!

I think everything will work except applications which have hardcoded
dependencies on the server. The only two that I'm aware of that have
these types of dependencies are trace and the agent.
