ANNOUNCING RELEASE 1.3.5 OF ORACLE ENTERPRISE MANAGER!

Oracle Enterprise Manager Release 1.3.5 is now available. It is being
released in conjunction with
the new Oracle 7.3.3 RDBMS Server.

What is Oracle Enterprise Manager?

Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) is an open framework consisting of a console,
applications,
agent, and a set of common services used to manage Oracle systems. The OEM
Console provides
Oracle administrators with an intuitive, easy to use interface and a high
degree of automation
through remote task execution and reactive and proactive management
capabilities.  Oracle
Enterprise Manager applications consist of the Standard Applications,
Performance Pack, and
Integrated Applications.

What's new in Oracle Enterprise Manager Release 1.3.5?

Release 1.3.5 of Oracle Enterprise Manager includes significant improvements
to both its user
interface and core functionality for:

   -  ease of use
   - ease of installation & configuration
   -  backwards compatibility

Oracle Enterprise Manager Console

The Oracle Enterprise Manager console itself is new and improved. An
Administrator Toolbar has
been added, allowing the user to launch OEM applications from the main Windows
screen.  In
addition, enhancements to the Standard Application user interfaces have been
made, including:

* More robust Drag & Drop and Right-Mouse-Button support

* Dual user interface modes ("Basic", "Advanced") for DB Administration
applications,
    allowing users to specify the level of operational detail

* Window size & location memory

Installation of Oracle Enterprise Manager

The installation and configuration of OEM 1.3.5 has been simplified, requiring
fewer steps than
before, thanks to new automated repository generation and Auto Discovery
features.

Automatic Repository Creation:

Beginning with Release 1.3.5, the installation of OEM no longer requires
manual creation of the
repository. Upon installation, the repository is automatically created for
the user.  Also, upgrading
is simple since previous versions of the OEM repository are compatible with
Release 1.3.5.

Auto Discovery and Wizard:

The improved 7.3.3 Intelligent Agent is accompanied by the Auto Discovery
feature.  Once a node
within an enterprise has been identified by the user, Auto Discovery detects
and identifies the
services residing on that node, configures the pertinent system files and
parameters, and integrates
the services into the environment if desired. The administration of this
process is simplified by the
Auto Discovery Wizard user interface tool.

Standard Applications

In addition to the overall user interface enhancements made to the Oracle
Enterprise Manager Console,
the following 'Wizards' (informative step-by-step interface guides) have been
added:

Oracle Data Manager:

*  Export Wizard
*  Import Wizard
*  Load Wizard

Oracle Schema Manager:

*  Table Wizard

Performance Pack

Performance Pack, OEM's value-added set of specialized database performance,
diagnostic and
tuning applications, has received functional and user interface upgrades as
well:

Oracle Trace and Oracle Trace Manager:

Oracle Trace Manager, an application for controlling Oracle Trace collections,
is now officially
released as production in 1.3.5. Representing a significantly enhanced user
interface for performing
Oracle Trace operations, its new capabilities include:

* Auto Discovery of Trace-enabled products on managed nodes
*   Collections Wizard
*   Collection status viewer
* Scheduling and launching of remote collections through the OEM Job System
*   Automatic formatting of collections

Oracle Expert:

* Enhanced structure tuning: sizing temporary segments
* New navigator tree view of databases and tuning sessions
* Improved 'view recommendation detail' function
* Improved organization of session data schema objects
*   Prioritized index recommendations

Oracle Tablespace Manager:

*   Improved defragmentation error-checking
*   New export/import failure tests

Oracle Performance Manager:

*   Grouped line charts

Note:	Although Web applications and SNMP MIB browsing will not be available
in OEM
	Release 1.3.5, look for similar functionality in upcoming releases.

Packaging

The Oracle Enterprise Manager Standard Applications are shipped free with the
Oracle 7.3.3
Server. The Performance Pack Applications are now sold as a licensed package
in a separate
CD kit (which also includes the Standard Applications).

740.2Don't be too discouraged...NOMAHS::SECRISTRdb WWS; [email protected]Tue Apr 15 1997 21:489

    	Note that none of the part numbers listed are available yet from
    	the internal doc/col order form from Oracle*Office as of 4/15/97.
    	I assume this will be rectified soon, so be patient and keep
    	trying ;-)

740.2Desparately Seeking ServersNOMAHS::SECRISTRdb WWS; [email protected]Wed Apr 16 1997 13:4065

    	Only A48481 is considered to be a "good" part number by Edify
    	through the "INTERNAL DOC/COLL ORDER FORM" in Oracle*Office.
    	Are these supposed to be orderable yet ?

    	Entered:	Failure status:				Attempted:

    	A52835-01	"J" -- wrong template or part number	16-Apr
    	A48479		"H" -- planned, invalid for ordering	16-Apr
    	A48485		"H" -- planned, invalid for ordering	16-Apr

    	A34760 "Category is MODEL" not orderable	15-Apr
    	A36305 "Category is MODEL" not orderable	15-Apr
    	A52835 "Category is KITS PC" not orderable	15-Apr
    	A53405 "Category is SW LICENSE" not orderable	15-Apr

    	A52835		"J"					14-Apr

    	Although it takes a long time at 28.8 kbps I finally downloaded
    	the kits and PDF doc from the web site (thanks).

    	Good luck getting a server to work with it if you're in the field
    	though !

    	Unfortunately I have been less successful downloading a 7.3 server
    	for NT and W95 (trying to download it OVERNIGHT is not long enough
    	at the transfer rates I got last night [i.e. NOT 28.8 kbps]) and
    	it is even less orderable (even older versions) through the internal
    	order process. To save anyone the grief of trying to order a CD
    	internally here is a list of part numbers not to bother with:

    	Invalid server CD part numbers:

    	A42657-5 (7.3.3.0.0 server NT)
    	A42657 (7.3.2.3.1 server NT)
    	A50452 (7.3.2.2.0 personal W95)
    	A36305 (7.3.2.2.0 personal W95)

    	Invalid product line CD numbers:

    	A42701-01 (7.3.3.0.0)
    	A42701 (7.3.3.0.0)

    	Invalid client software CS numbers:

    	A42699-01 (7.3.3.0.0)
    	A42699 (7.3.3.0.0)

    	Invalid programmer/2000 numbers:

    	A48466

    	Invalid developer/2000 1.3 numbers:

    	A48605

    	Regards,
    	rcs

740.3Not sure why part numbers aren't availableOOTOOL::CRAIGThu Apr 17 1997 10:3110
	Hi Richard,

	Your best bet would be to check with PRGINFO
	and / or Client Relations.

	I wrote to them about 7.3.3 and they said it
	is available for the NT client and will be
	available for the server the beginning of May.

740.4Documentation for 1.3.5 ran into problems in productionOOTOOL::CRAIGThu Apr 17 1997 14:0911
	Hi,

	Just to let you know, I heard at my staff meeting
	this morning that there were some problems encountered
	when they physically went to put the documentation in
	production. These issues are being worked and the
	doc set will be available (but I don't know a date)
	soon.

	Take care,
	Sheri
740.5Lessons learned...NOMAHS::SECRISTRdb WWS; [email protected]Fri Apr 18 1997 07:2812

    	As of yesterday evening A48484 and A48479 are orderable.
    	Although I don't have confirmation yet, I believe my
    	other problems stemmed from the fact that I should have
    	been using the INTERNAL SOFTWARE ORDER FORM instead of
    	the one I was using. It is best if you also get your
    	part numbers from the internal web parts search engine
    	at: http://usa-revenue-nt.us.oracle.com/part_query

    	Regards,
    	rcs

740.6Two OEM manuals still not orderableNOMAHS::SECRISTRdb WWS; [email protected]Wed May 07 1997 18:3419

    	As of today the following manuals still may NOT be ordered
    	separately; both are returned as "planned":

    	A48483 OEM Application Developer's Guide V1.3
    	A48482 OEM Administrator's Guide, Release 1.3.5

    	Both of course are available on the web in HTML or PDF at
    	http://smpweb.us.oracle.com/index.html, and the Admin.
    	guide ships with the complete doc. kit (A52808) and is on
    	the product CD (A52867).

    	Additionally there is also an Oracle Parallel Server
    	Support for the Oracle Enterprise Manager Console
    	Release 1.3 manual (A45442) which may be ordered
    	separately at this time.

    	Regards,
    	rcs
