1297.0. "sqsivp32" by BROKE::BITHER () Fri Feb 07 1997 10:48

Hi,

I have a customer who installed rdbwin95.exe and was trying to run the
SQL/Sevices client API IVP. The reference to this is in:

 c:\win95\readme

a file which is created during the odbc 2.10.11 installation (rdbwin95.exe)
This file says to run: sqsivp32.

Sqsivp32 is nowhere on his system after installing rdbwin95.exe. This same file
also refers to invoking the oracle installer by running \orawin95\orainst. But
he ran setup.exe in the win95\install directory instead as the web directions
state.

I had him define a data source and run the Oracle ODBC for Rdb Test and
it all worked fine so told him he doesn't need to run sqsivp32.

I checked the old readme.txt for 2.0.20 and there is no reference to
running the sql/services client api ivp. Now it has been added to the
v7 client readme file. Are there any plans to include the sqsivp32 file
in a future odbc release? Also, why do they refer to orainst, yet the
web instructions say to invoke \platform\install\setup?

Thanks, Diane

I found it in orawin95/sqlsrv.

Hi Diane,

In 7.0 there's a new Rdb client CD which includes the ODBC Driver, the
SQL/Services client, and the Rdb DBAPack clients. The readme your customer
was reading applied to this new client CD.

The SQL/Services ivp is only installed if you choose to install the
SQL/Services development kit from this client CD. If your customer installed
ODBC only, he got the SQL/Services runtime only and not the IVP.

You're right. Running the Test program and connecting to an Rdb data source
accomplishes the same thing as the IVP.

I don't know why - but I believe setup just invokes oracle installer - so
both end up doing the same thing.
