Hi, I am thinking about purchasing an african grey. There is a store near my house that has a handfed baby, born on the 02-jun. Bird seemed very friendly/curious when I was there. The asking price was $1700.00. I am not aware of any other store near me that cary these birds. (ie. would I find better priced birds in Toronto or Montreal) Is this a reasonable price? Also need to know cage size. I suspect that the bigger the cage is, the better it would be. Would a 4' high by 2' feet square be ok if the bird was to be out of the cage a lot of the time? I've looked at the other notes in here regarding grey's, but they all seemed rather old. Oops, almost forgot, I live just outside of ottawa. (canada) Any pointers would Greatly be appreciated. /Guy

Gee Guy, that sounds like an awlful lot of money, but in Canada that might be the going price. Here in Massachusetts, I can get a three week old African Grey for $450, four week old for $650, and after 6 weeks they usually go for around $1000. The younger ones are locally breed and born. Maybe you should find a private breeder instead of a pet store (just a suggestion). Kinda cut out the middleperson! Terry

Found a spot where the prices were more in line with the one you suggested Terry. Thanks for the reply... /Guy

No problem, I hope you have a good time with your new bird. I'm going to get me a "Grey" someday also. Terry |
