I was visiting a local Pet Store (Just for Pets) in Townsend, MA and was introduced to a Goldie Lorikeet. The bird had very vibrant colors and was approximately 6 inches from head to tail. Can anyone tell me anything about the bird? I searched thru several back issues of Bird Talk to see if they had any info. but all to no avail. I asked the sales clerk at the store if the lorikeets had talking ability and he wasn't certain. He looked in several of his bird books but couldn't find an answer. Does anyone have anything they can share about these little guys?

Hi I have a rainbow lorikeet, yes they can talk. But it takes a couple of weeks just like any bird. They don't talk like a parot, when they talk it sounds more like a squeeky wheel turning. But you will be able to understand them with out any problems. They are also very energetic birds and like to make alot of high pitched sounds when you arn't paying attention to them. They are very loveable birds, and there is some work involved. These birds are nector birds. Thet can not eat seed's. There digestive tracks can't handle it. They eat soft food's like fruit, baby food, pasta, basickly anything you would feed a parot as a snack. I have to go now unfortunatly. But if you need any more information feel free to write me. As for finding books on Lorys you can find them but they only talk about the classes and types of Lorys. It will be hard finding information on there actual taking care of and personalites. If you want to know more about them I would talk to a couple of other pet stores. I HOPE I WAS OF SOME HELP. ZEKE::KING |
