781.0. "just call me granny..." by CARTUN::MISTOVICH (depraved soul) Fri Mar 19 1993 09:20

Well, I've got my first zebra finch hatchlings!!!! Last night I
saw some squirming shadows under Mrs. Minnever, but couldn't get
a good look. This morning, however, both parents left the nest
for a moment -- 2 bebbes were begging, one looked inert (but may
have been breathing), one was partway hatched and the 5th egg was
    still whole.

Question -- if the parents don't remove the one that may have been
dead, when should I take it out? I was planning on checking them again
tonight and removing it and also the 4th (if it was unable to hatch)
when I get home tonight. Is that ok? Or should I have taken it out
this morning? I don't want to pester them too much...

    Thanks,
    Mary

PS if they make it, I will probably have some zebras in need of a good
    home ....

Congratulations Granny ... I mean Mary. It must be getting quite
interesting with your expanded flock. Keep me posted on how all are
    doing!

Well, all 5 have hatched and are doing fine so far. Can hear'em
peeping as far as the kitchen!

At what age to male zebras grow their cheek patches?

    thanks
