752.0. "Jenday Conures" by CSLALL::MDOYLE () Fri Nov 13 1992 18:01

Does anyone own a Jenday Conure? I have seen many kinds of conures
in here but nothing about Jenday Conures?

    Mary,

Jendays are beautiful birds, similar to the Sun (a little less yellow).
However the Sun and Sunday (a hybrid from a Sun and Jenday), seem to be
the more popular with breeders. I don't know much about Conures,
however Jendays, like its close relative the Sun, are VERY loud. A
handfed baby can make a wonderful pet, although I have heard that they
can become nippy. A friend of mine owns a Sunday and it is a very
smart bird with a very outgoing disposition, however it does tend to
    nip at times.

Hopefully some of our Conure fanciers might be able to shed some light
    on this beautiful bird.

    Do you have one?

    Regards,
    Denise

    Denise,

I was so glad to finally have a reply about the conures. Yes, I
do have a Jenday. His name is CASWELL, he is almost if not 1 year old.
I brought him home in Sept. and he was about four months old. I will
be getting he birthdate Saturday beacause I want to know his exact age.
He is fabulous!!!! He is a ham, an actor, a gymnast and a clown. He is
learning to control his screaming more and more. I spend lots of time
with him. He may nip but it is more like a teething nip...no pain
involved. That really is how he likes to play..he is a rough-houser
and has trouble keeping long tail feather because they seem to get
in his way...he eats like he hasn't eaten in months...he loves pasta,
cream of wheat, spagettio's, vanilla ice cream, macaroni and cheese,
and gorton( a french meat spread) he will anything I eat...he loves the
shower and the sink but the spray bottle is a diciplinary action which
he hates....he loves to hang off my finger of the bottom of my shirt
while i am busy around the apt....he loves riding in the car...
i never cover his cage and he will not wake up or make a sound until I
wake up and go to his cage...which is very big and loaded with toys and
stuff.....anyways i could go on forever about him....he can say "kiss
me" and " thank you" and he knows what they mean.....
well I hope to hear from you again or anybody else who knows about
conures....this is my firsty experience with a bird and I think I am
doing just fine....thank you for the reply.....mary

p.s. I bought him at SEA WORLD PET CENTER on RT 28 in SALEM NH..

752.3what is a reasonable price for a Jenday?CX3PT2::PWAKET::CBUTTERWORTHGive Me Wings...Wed May 05 1993 17:5710
How much is a reasonable price to pay for a Jenday Conure. My husband
and I have found a really sweet 4 month old one that we are interested
in, but the sellers are asking $600 which seems a little expensive
to me. This would be our first bird so we haven't priced that many.

    Any comments?

    Thanks!

    \Caroline B.

I bought my Jenday for $499.00. He was about 4 months old. Where is
this Jenday? Are you aware that Jendays are screamers?? I love my
Jenday but was not informed of their high pitched scream...my Jenday
has stoppped his screaming by at least 50% since I got him which was
almost 1 year ago...if you have any more questions I would be glad to
    help out.....

p.s. I bought my Jenday at Sea World pet center in Salem,N.H.
and they get newborns in on a regular basis and if you choose to buy
one they have a lay-a-way basis and let you spend as much time with
your bird before you buy him/her....

                                  good luck....Mary

    Hi Mary,

Yes, I've been reading more of the notes in here since I entered
my previous one and found your other notes about the prices.
We haven't heard so much as a peep yet out of the one we are
looking at, but we don't mind the noise anyway. (We've got 5
dogs that bark a lot so we're used to noise. :-)

We are in Colorado Springs and our bird is in one of the local
pet stores (which explains the high markup :-), but she's in excellent
health and they have done a good job of hand-raising her. She's
really sweet and already does several tricks. (Plus she's got a
crush on my husband - the little hussy!) If we decide to buy her
we're going to see if they will haggle on the price or throw in
    a cage/accessories.
