    My SO just got a double yellowhead amazon. He is about 15 weeks old,
    was hand fed,very friendly, and can already say "hello" "hi" and "i
    love you". My problem is he stinks....He has a very medicinal smell
    around his beak even after showering him. I talked to the breeder
    and he says he sprays all his new birds with an disinfectant when he
    has so many birds at his house. My question about this bird is
    twofold:
    	1-Is it normal for this bird to have what looks like a hole at the
          back of his tongue?? Not the beak but a hole actually in the
          tongue.
    	2-Any ideas on what the smell might be and how to eliminate it?
    
    	Any help would be appreciated as i'm somewhat of a novice with
        birds....

    Has the amazon been checked by a Vet?? That really should be the first
    thing on the list of to-do's. We have a conure that "stinks" if he eats
    to many pastatio nuts! (smells like old socks). Other than that - I
    don't have a clue.

    A smelly beak usually indicates that something is amiss:
    - infection in beak
    - illness
    - sour crop
    - digestion disturbance
    
    So indeed see a vet about this.

    This smell turned out to be an odor the bird picks up from eating so
    many peppers...he loves the little red cherry type peppers that are
    in his food..he prefers those over all other items. We never noticed
    this smell on our cockatoo because she hates the peppers..she prefers
    the sunflower seeds over anything else.

    Have you ever accidently kissed your bird after eating those peppers? 
    I've made the mistake a couple of times and didn't realize it until my
    lips started burning!  I wonder why they love them so much?  My Nanday
    (Bandit) loves them too!
