I am thinking of getting a new (larger) cage for my lovebirds. I am concerned that they are so used to thier current cage that they may feel stressed with a new cage. Can anyone comment on how birds react to a new cage. Thanks, Nancy

Just my opinion- I have keets, tiels & love birds and have on many occassions change them from cage to cage. As yet I have not witnessed any emotional scars ;-) I think that as long as the room that they are in stays the same it should not be a problem. chet | |||||

Nancy, I really hate to do this, but I agree with Chet! The smaller birds don't seem to mind getting a new cage, but on the other hand a parrot would have to be handled a bit differently. If you still feel your love birds might be stressed, try this. Buy your new cage and put it in the same room that your birds are currently in. Leave it there in thier view for a few days, then move it right next to thier old cage. Then you can gradually take toys, ladder or whatever you have in the old cage to the new cage. By then your bird should be very interested in the new cage and will probably go on it,or in it by them- selves. Then gradually move the old cage out of the room. I had to do this for my Amazon, because he freaked out when I got him a new cage. Hope this helps someone! Mike |
