I have (2) cockatiels there names are showtime & whisper. Whisper just had a baby this morning and this is her first one and this is new to me. I need some questions answered if anyone can help who has been through this. Is it o.k. to leave the male & female together with the egg? How long does it take for the baby to hatch? Is there special food you need to give the mother and baby? Can I touch the egg when cleaning the cage out? Whisper had her baby at the bottom of her cage in the right corner. The bottom of her cage is all wood. Do I need to get some special cage for when they breed? If someone could send mail a mail note or call me a.s.a.p. @ DTN 297-2229 I would appreciate this. Thanks Mary

>>> it o.k. to leave the male & female together with the egg? Definitely! They help each other out - >>> How long does it take for the baby to hatch? 18 to 20 days >>>> Is there special food you need to give the mother and baby? Since she can continue to lay upto 6 or 7 eggs - High protein HIGH Calcium. (I also put a small bowl of water in the bottom of the cage so she can keep wet - it helps the laying process) >>> Can I touch the egg when cleaning the cage out? You really should get a breeding box if you want this thing to work. I had tried a cardboard box in the cage and had very little success. The best seemed to be the wooden nesting box on the outside of the cage. I try not to touch the eggs or disturb the parents. With the box attached to the outside of the cage it makes cleanup a great deal easier. Good Luck!! Dora |
