In Dutch there is only one word for both pigeons and doves: duif.
Can someone explain the difference between pigeons and doves?
Also, I am looking for good books about breeding and raising
pigeons/doves.

Hi Peter,
I am sure you know the physical difference from Reference books. I
don't know what the deciding factors are, but I have had pigeons and a
Mourning Dove. The biggest difference I found was my Pigeons always
wanted to go into a roost Box at night and the Dove roosted on the
highest perch in the cage. With the pigeons, I locked them in the box
for safety from Predators. The Dove was snatched off a perch (7ft high)
by a weasel one night.
