I HAVE A AFRICAN GREY PARROT THATS ABOUT 9 MONTHS OLD. ITS GETTING CLOSER TO VACATION TIME AND I AM CONCERED WHETHER WE SHOULD TAKE HIM OR LEAVE HIM HOME FOR A WEEK WHEN WE GO TO THE BEACH. HE IS SO BONDED TO ME AND MY HUSBAND THAT I THINK IT WOULD BE BETTER TO TAKE HIM THEN LEAVE HIM HOME WITH A SITTER. (OUR SITTER LIVES WITH US BUT SHE DOESNT GIVE HIM THE ATTENTION WE GIVE HIM) ANY SUGESTIONS ON TAKING HIM AWAY FROM HIS ENVIRONMENT WITH US OR LEAVING HIM IN HIS HOME WITHOUT US? THANKS! KAREN & BOGART

TAKE HIM WITH YOU! That's my suggestion. We have a yellow front amazon and have taken him on vacations with us (to the cape) for the last 4 years. He has a great time. We take his cage and toys and he feels right at home. We rent the same place each year so he is now quite familiar with his surroundings, however it didn't hinder him a bit even the first time, and he was just a little over a year old at the time. He's no trouble. I do worry when we go out for awhile and leave him at the cottage, however we lock all the doors and draw the drapes. The last couple of years I have also brought along my Moluccan Cockatoo, however she is more of a handful, since she wants my undivided attention. I just don't like leaving my larger birds with a sitter. They require special attention and unless the sitter is a fellow bird person, it is really a big task to undertake. Plus, vacations are to relax, and you can't relax if you are constantly worried about your little guy(s)! So take him with you and you won't regret it! Good Luck, Denise | |||||

I agree!! Just make sure he is not left in the HOT car for any length of time. Have Fun!! Dora |
