653.0. "Birds/Ticks" by SALSA::DEFRANCO () Fri Jan 17 1992 14:46
I have a 13 year old husky who spends more and more time in doors. I
figure she deserves as much comfort in her old age as possible. Now,
she being a dog and our living in the desert, she sometimes gets ticks
(yuk, double yuk!). This really isn't a problem with her as my husband
and I make sure we pick them off of her. Of course, we sometimes miss
a few. Now after all this wind up, here's my question. If one of
these ticks were to fall off the dog, could they attach themselves to
one of my birds??
The dog, Tinsel, has chosen the foot of the Taco's cage to sleep by and
although it's not a problem during the winter, I'm afraid of what might
happen in the summer when tick season starts again.
Any info would be welcomed.

| Hi Jeanne,
I would think if a tick was able to make its way onto your bird (with
out getting eaten, first) that it would have the ability to preen it off.
I don't think this would be a problem. Maybe a snack (yuk) but not a
problem.
