We have come up with a question. (notice I didn't say dumb!) Cassie may have to be left alone in the house for about 24 hours. What would be the best way to handle this? His bed time is typically around 9:00 or 9:30 (cover on the cage) and the lights go out about 11:30. The cage is uncovered and he is told good morning at 8:30 in the morning. Cassie gets to fly around the house between 7:00 to 8:00 or 8:30 PM. Actually he only flies for a few minutes and the rest of the time climbs all over my wife, Mostly playing with her necklace or sitting on her shoulder or head as she does things and moves around. The heart of the question is since our daughter will also be going with us and there will be no one at home from about 10AM Saturday till around 8PM Sunday what should we do. leave the cover on so he thinks he is in bed? take the cover off - leave a light on - leave the lights off? The one thing we do intend to do is leave a radio on so he will at least have that much company. Food and water we are not too concerned with because of the millet spray hung up, the seed cup, stuff on the floor of the cage and honey stick. For water we will leave a full cup plus one of those gravity feed thingies, plus a few bits of apple slice.

We have one light and the radio on a timer. They both turn on at 8:00 AM and turn off at 11:00 PM. We stopped covering our birds (7 of them) and they don't seem to mind a bit. If you are concerned about breeze or cold air - just put the cover anoud 2 or three sides - not on the top or front.(clothes pins work great for holding the cover on). We are gone on weekends a lot - and this seems to work well. It sounds as if you have everthing else you need! | |||||

We have one of those night-lights that turn on when it gets dark and off when it's light. If you're going to leave a radio on, leave the volume real low. WHen the house is empty, it doesn't take much volume. Chris D. |
