604.0. "Air Filtration Systems" by SOURCE::ADDY (You Gotta Love It) Tue Sep 10 1991 15:57

    I am interested in purchasing an air filtration system. There
    are so many on the market...I find it difficult and (expensive)

    Anyone own one that they can share personal experience with
    NOTES. I have been looking at NSA (Environmental Air Systems)..
    again different models..do they really help with bird dust..etc.

    Thank you.

604.1Bionaire works wellSALSA::DEFRANCOTue Sep 10 1991 16:2412
    I have a Bionaire 5000 in my bird room and it works great. It only
    does the one room however, not the entire house. It's keeps the dust
    down and the room seem to smell fresher, although this may just be my
    imagination. Cost: about $200.00 plus $10 (give or take) for a pack of
    3 replacement filters which I change every 3 months.

    I hear the electro-static cleaners are the best, but they are also much
    more expensive.

604.2I shoulda named my Cockatoo 'DUSTY'MR4DEC::CWHITETue Sep 10 1991 16:4714
    Another variation would be to use (if you already have one) a Rainbo
    Vaccum cleaner.....the air passes through water and seems to work well.

    I purchased a used one for that purpose only but it did not last long.

    I can appreciate the need as I have MANY birds, but my Cockatoo is the
    worst with dust producing. I tried the NSA air filtration system for a
    month and it did make a noticable difference, but as with everything
    else, it was not totally effective. Put it next to the cage with the
    'too' in it, and the dust did not travel as far....didn't take long
    to clog the filter either I might add. So I've learned to live with
    it!

    What a difference in price.. the NSA (1 large room.. double the price).
    I am looking for my family room.. to cut down on dust..but I don't
    want to have to go out and get a part time job to purchase it..

    Where did you find the dealerships for these products?

    Thanks for the information..it is interesting you go out and buy one
    bird...then two birds.. air systems...help, what is next. (PS..would
    not trade the birds). Thanks again.
