575.0. "The Avian Certificates Company - the use of POOR JUDGEMENT" by AVIAN::KIRSCHBAUM (Have You Hugged a Parrot Today) Tue Jul 16 1991 14:39

This is not a note that I have any pleasure in
	writing.

I, and other contributors to this file believe
that a DEC employee is using the names from
this file as an internal mailing list.

I, and several other contributors to this
conference have received a mailing from the
Avian Certificates company, which lists a
	P.O. Box as their address.

	There are several problems here...

I received the mailing at the office to my
mailstop, something probabally taken from VTX
	ELF.

Someone is apparently using DEC facilities and
DEC property and DECfiles to jumpstart their
business. The flyer even looks like it was
	created using DECwrite.

I don't have a problem with mailing lists, you
can probabally purchase one thru Bird Talk, I
am sure I would be on it. I believe that is
	the correct way to start.

I have not called the number listed on the
flyer, at this point, I really do not wish to
know who is starting this company. However,
I not wish to receive any personal solicitations
from non-work connected business at my office
location, unless I specifically ask for it.
And I really do not like the fact that this
NOTESfile is being used to develop a commercial
	mailing list.

All things being equal, the certificates look
nice, and I am sure that had an ad been taken
either locally, at any of the area pet shops,
or in Bird Talk, the person who is starting the
business would not have created all the anxiety.

In this period of financial stress, the company
looking for many ways to cut back on costs, I
Really would hate to have out NOTESfiles suffer
	because of someones poor judgement.

Please let's all think of the possible consequences
	of our actions.

However, I am sure that what happened was just
a case of poor judgement and won't happen again.

	Thank you

	dick
