| Keep us posted on your african grey and how he adjusts, etc.
That's the only other bird I am considering obtaining, and considering
it seriously.

Glad you're happy with your Grey. You may be lucky and not have
him pick up the conure screams. I have six Greys. None of them have
picked up my Nanday conure screams, and believe me, as all Nanday
owners can attest to, they do scream. Of course the number of
different whistles and bird calls that the Greys have picked up is
something else. That includes the assorted burping, nose blowing,
creaking door, zipper, and old fashioned micro-wave sounds.
There is a very good book on Greys that was written by a German. I
will try and get the title and author for you if you haven't picked it
up already.

I would appreciate the name of the book. I am afraid I am not going
to be as lucky as you - it seems Winston is already picking up
"sounds" from Casper the Conure. Casper has a little routine he
goes thru -- "eak-screech-eak-hey-g##-dam#-it" - all in one breath -
and Winston was trying to emulate last night -- This really should
get to be a lot of fun. But what the hey - It keeps life exciting.
Winston is picking up all the tiels whistles - so now I can't tell
who is doing what!!!

The title is; THE GREY PARROT, and its by Wolfgang Grahl.
I must be lucky! Mine have been in the same room with the Nandays
for about two years and not one scream has been picked up. I count
my blessings every night.
One thing that is neat about the Grey is how smart they are. Mine
knows the contains, packages that all food and drink come in by heart.
I unknowingly left his cage door ajar Sunday while I was out of the
house. He got out and wandered over to my book rack, discovered the
roll of Ritz crackers I had stashed behind the books, (Only part of
the wrapper was showing), and I came home to cracker crumbs all over my
bed. He ate them all.
When I get ready for work in the morning, I very rarely have any
problems getting Jonsey and his mail-order-bride into the cage for the
day. I just say "IN YOUR CAGE" about five or six times and they know
enough to slowly, and I do mean slowly, crawl down off the top of the
cage and climb inside.
Good luck with your new Friend!

I will pick up the book - thanks! Last night Winston had us in
stitches! He is coming up with more and more noises. I gave
him some yams - and he makes lip smaking noises and was saying
oohh - aahh. Then he dicided we weren't paying enough attention
to him - so he Flew down to the floor(his wings are clipped) and
then walked up the side of the couch and sat himself down. He
looked at us like - "so what did you expect??".
This is such fun!!!

570.6 | A Grey and his Cage... | CSOA1::DIRRMAN | | Mon Dec 02 1991 16:08 | 17 |
| We purchased a really nice cage for Winston. He had been in a Preview
124 and he is now in a 134. It is 24 X 24 X 58 - white enamel bake on..
with a bolt-on two tiered play pen on top. I really thought there
would be some adjustment --- HA - He went right for it and has been
having a ball! WHen you think they will be scittish - they fool ya -
then when you think they will like something - they will be scittish.
Ya just can't win!! I really am so glad he likes it!
He is doing well - still not talking much - but constantly comming up
with new noises. He keeps me in stitches. The neat thing is that Casper
the Conure has picked up more sounds - some good - some not so good...
But they all keep us entertained. He sound like the microwave now and
then makes popcorn popping noises. He whistles popeye the sailor, and
5 different whistles. He also makes like the tiels.
Just thought I would keep everyone posted..... really do love that
cage!
