HI, In the next few months I plan on going shopping for a 'Tiel. I
have never had birds, so this is totally new for me. I _think_ that I
have what to look for down pat (read Bird Talk and have a bird
medical/care book at home). Hopefully.
My question is: What type of "guarantee" should I hope to get from
a breeder? I would like to get some kind of written agreement in case
my bird turns up with something incurable (liver problems etc..).
If buying a hand-fed baby - do you usually give a deposit?
I don't want to insult the breeder, I just want to be fair to both
sides.
Your comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Some of what you are asking depends on state laws... I believe that both Mass and N.H. have a one month law...in other words, you have one month to check the bird out, and can return it for full refund on a Vet's diagnosis. I had to leave a deposit on Avalon when he was just "an egg". The breeder (Al Decoteau) guaranteed him against all diseases, and suggested that I take him immediately to my Vet for a baseline checkup... However, there was no returning the bird, for any other reason....he did not pretend to be Lechemere -dick | |||||
