480.0. "Bird Room Suggestions, Please" by SALSA::DEFRANCO () Fri Jan 11 1991 12:04

My husband and I have decided to turn our spare bedroom into a "bird
room". Presently, my two tiels live on our kitchen counter which is
O.K. but there is no room for expansion, if you know what I mean!

I'm so excited about this. Now, I don't intend on going out and buying
all kinds of birds, rather, I want to create a wonderful, soothing and
efficient room that my birds can be happy in as well a an environment
that is pleasent for me to sit in to watch and play with the birds.

I thought of putting two tables on which to place cages and several
artificial trees and plants to decorate with. Maybe a small mission
fountain so the birds can listed to running water as well as have an
instant bird bath. A nice chair for me to sit in and a good sized play
area (maybe a large glass tank with branches in it) for the birds to
play on. Well, this is what I've thought of so far. If any of you
have suggestions or ideas that would make my bird room more efficient
and beautiful I would love to hear them.

I still intend on have a playgym on the kitchen counter so that each
bird can come out to visit with us each day.

    thanks, for any suggestions!

    Jeanne

P.S. the room is 12 x 12 and has a beige tile floor in it for easy
    cleaning.

    Hi Jeanne,

Three things to add might be: 1) a humidifier for the winter months
(steam ones also keep the room warm, at least so long as there is
water in the unit); 2) a room air ionizer/cleaner, especially with
cockatiels and their dust; and 3) a space heater set on low in case
your main heat goes off-for use during the winter only, of course!
How lucky you are to be able to devote that much space to your
birds and to relaxing! Have fun!

    Linda
